This Sunday, 29th. June, Eddie is giving his Obedience shows a miss and going to the Beagle Welfare Fun Day (and hog roast) at Ashbourne, Derbys. I'm sure we're going to have a good time, we've been practicing our best tricks, and I'm really looking forward to seeing the look on his face when he sees so many of his own breed. Yesterday he was ever so thrilled to meet a Lurcher puppy, and I'm sure it was only because it was a tricolour like him! If there are any other Beagle owners out there who would like the address and contact details, please respond to this post and I will post them.
Wish I lived closer - sounds like a great day and I've always loved hounds! Hope the weather is kind and you raise lots of money.
Thanks folks! Watch out for Beagle cars on the A516 Tina. Will do our best with pictures - unless we're huddled under our brollies!
Well, we were lucky with the weather - just an odd spot of rain, but not enough to put a coat on. I thought the lad would be knocked out by the staggering number of his own kind - I think there were somewhere between 150 - 200 Beagles - but he was rather more interested in the cow poo in the parking field. He tried Canicross with my friend Janet, as I'm not fit enough to run uphill. His time was 49 secs. (respectable), and 12 1/2 year old Tweed Lurcher (ish) did it in 51 secs. However, the lure racing filled him with terror, and the little wimp had to retire to the car to regain his composure. We didn't try the agility as there was a steady queue all day, but there were a variety of stalls, and even the dogs (sorry Hounds) were searching for bargains. After a lunch of hog roast, or veggie chilli with cheesy corn bread, followed by yummy desserts, there was a parade of wefare hounds, followed by a mini show on the lawn - which did get a bit crowded - but all the Beagles behaved beautifully. In short we had a lovely day, made even better by winning one of the main raffle prizes - a bottle of Glenfiddich! I'm sure the Welfare must have done well, it is a really energetically managed charity. The new van was funded by the Tour de Beagle cycle ride from John O'Groats to Lands End!
Dogs can try agility, diving into pool, swimming, racing, its lots fun all different activity it was held on Saturday & Sunday, I just came across it when we were taking dogs out, it was £6.50 for adults to get in dogs free, they weren't even bothered when they saw Dotties NO DOGS harness & lead, the owners whose dogs were off leads just called their dogs away from Dottie, there were loads of Beagles there too. Its on every year at the Bakewell show ground, its worth going if you got a dog who loves swimming.
That sounds great Tina! I do not think Pereg would like it though as she is not used to being with lots of dogs! A bit like me with people, I guess - we are both rather solitary beings.
I forgotten it was on as normally I book tickets on line -cheaper when booked on line- it was only because we were taking dogs out for run that we came across the signs for it, 2 of my dogs went off on their own (Zeus & Skye) think they spent all their time diving into the pool & Ziva took herself around the agility course (there was no way I was going to keep up with her) I must admit I over spend on buying harnesses collars leads beds blankets toys chews.
Not sure if this link will work Carole, but it will give you some idea what goes on in Dogs Unleashed. Welcome to Dogs Unleashed - The UltiMUTT Doggy Day Out www.dogsunleashed.co.uk/ Welcome to Dogs Unleashed the ultimutt doggy day out. The next Dogs Unleashed will take place at The Bakewell Showground, Derbyshire
Thanks for that Tina. I hadn't heard of Dogs Unleashed. Ed would really like it, he is a strong swimmer. Tweed likes to keep one foot on the bottom (like me), and has a sudden burst of activity when the ground level falls away!
The Beagle Club are also holding a BBQ-Rally and Funday this weekend (the 12th) details of which can be found on the Beagle clubs website under events
