    Dogs to pair with dalmatians

    Hi all,
I was just wondering what breed of dog would pair well with a dalmatian. Ok this thought came about because dizney is desperate for another dog to play with. Other dogs around here either seem to be too old or too small for him to play with. It has been the plan to get another dog, and at the moment we are just considering the breed of dog.

Now it seems the safest way around this would be to get another dal (YAY!!) but we are also looking at other options. we would be looking for a dog with alot of energy and something that is very playful. I think we would want something a round about the same size or something that would be able to "take a few knocks" (please dont take this phrase literally but i couldnt think of another way to phrase it. but i was just thinking about the Boisterous behaviour of diz and not wanting a new dog to get hurt. if that makes sense)

all suggestions and info needed lol!!!
    Jay xx

Well utes are extremely boisterous, most large dogs leave the playing fields when my 5 months old girls come on, they run everyone ragged and do play rough, they have excellent temperements and are a really good all round dog.
Beware the garden though as they are also excellent diggers and you could well find yourself with a shortcut to China!!!

It's quite common to see them with Springer companions. Springers are very robust and have a similar temperament/outlook onlife. Polo is at the kennels this weekend but he has FOUR Springer bitches to play with and he is enchanted. Didn't even notice me go! :-( His breeder also breeds Springers.
You can even get a liver or black and white Springer to match your Dally!

Other people I know also have Shiba's, Border Terriers and Labs with their Dallies. Other breeds are tougher than you think!

Well my Dally has lived for 3 years now with a Boxer and I have never had a days problem with them in terms of getting on and play.

A Dobie would be good too. Syd loves to play all day and a dog to take the knocks makes his day. His faves are staffy's, dalmations, huslkies, boxers and rotties.

Well I would hav to say a Boxer............it will fit all of the above.

but any medium to large dog should do. most gun dogs should be OK

Takara gets on very well with a border terrier, labs, a greyhound (although he does flatten her!), boxers and obviously other dalmatians!

She was brought up with a springer until I got her and the dogs at the breeder's place still live with the ESS and get on well.

boxers and weimaraners have similar builds and temperaments to dallies so I think they'd make great companions but even though Takara's best friend is a little Border Terrier, he gives as good as he gets and they get on great!

Good luck! Personally I think you should have a liver dally and have one of each!! Watching dals play together is magnificent and there aren't many around here so if I had the chance I think I'd have another dal!

lol thanks for all your comments sadly there is no way we could get a weimaraner because dizney is HUGELY scared of them ( one weimaraner attacked him when he was about 16 weeks old and despite trying our hardest to re-socialise him with the breed it has never worked). Must say i would love a liver-spot dal! lol

Well naturally I would say Springer!

But I think if it was me in your position I'd go for a Boxer.

    Don't ask me why!

Our ESS loves playing with the dallies (although the older bitch does put him firmly in place!!!) Springers are as nutty as dallies but with that please let me please you temperment rather than the what's in it for me attitude that the dals seem to have!!

I have a Bichon Havanese and a Dal. They play together like my Bichon is a big dog. lol. It doesn't really matter what type of dog you pair it with. Just as long as they are both brought up right (not a viscous dog) they will get along just great!
