The colouring of the dog has no significance whatever for service; our shepherd dog accordingly is not bred for colour. Colouring therefore is only a fad of the amateur and as such is often liable to changes of whim. v. Stephanitz 1923 - often gets miss quoted by the 'amateurs' that breed for non standard colours.
Following on from yesterday's 'bonfire' thread (and me getting a little tipsy ) I quite like "Everything in moderation, including moderation"
My favourite saying is .... "If you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen" ..... President Trueman.
Do as I say , not as I do! don't think its a famous saying, but one used a lot in my home to my children....
Maybe not famous but I think most children have heard - and most parents have said some or all of the following - probably others as well! If the wind changes you will stay like that [to a child pulling faces]. Sit on the cold stone doorstep and you will get piles. I do not care why you are doing it, but stop it this minute. Do not think that I do not know what you are doing - I have eyes in the back of my head.
Eating crusts makes your hair curly. If you swallow an apple pip you will get an apple tree growing in your appendix.
And a very old one... If you swallow that chewing gum it will get all tangled round your tonsils and you will get Diphtheria.
be a fruitloop in a world full of cheerios you cant polish a turd, but you can roll it in glitter a house is not a home until there's a dog in it
My favourite saying because it was my Dad's is... 'Procrastination is the thief of time' also another of Dad's 'Never put off till tomorrow that which you can do today' . Because of these sayings I learnt to always get the unpleasant jobs done first out of the way then I didn't need to worry about them. My time was them mine to enjoy.
I am the same as you in that respect Meg. Here is a similar one from former Archbishop of Canterbury Rowan Williams: 'The past is what the present is doing now' In one sense, do the unpleasant stuff now as, soon enough, it will be the past. On the other hand, when doing the nicer stuff, remember to savour the moment because by the time we have thought about/reflected on something, it has already become the past.
I like, what my Dad alway's said to me..." If it seems too good to be true, it probably is!" I found this to be so true in so many ways, except last year. When a lady told me about an 8 month old German Shepherd Dog, in Wales, who needed a good home and somebody to love him!........His name was Rhodi!!! That was just TOO good to be true, but it happened. I will be so grateful for the rest of my life.
I like that one too I also add to that " once we couldn´t fly but someone came along and made that possible. Whatever seems impossible just needs the person that will make it possible and that can be you just as much as it could be anyone else"
My favourite is a Winston Churchill quote, 'Success is the ability to move from one failure to another with no loss of enthusiasm'. Very useful when training is not going well!
