Help identify breed please. and some guide as well.

I found this dog at my relatives farm 25 days ago. he was very sick, weak and was not even able to walk. i took him to vets in my area and one said he have parvo other said he have oddesis disease.

just curios if he have some specific breed characteristic so i can train him as per qualities.

currently i am giving him multivitamins syrup and injection (neurobion). Always dreamed to have a pure breed, but not able to afford, i never thought i will find a street dog & rescue him. I will weather he is some good breed or not will have him as my buddy if he gets better. almost a month and he can walk and eat well, but during walks he slips and fell. I guess he is 3 month old, But He waits only 7KG :( i feed him chicken half KG every day, and some milk and calcium sirup once a day 5ml. sometimes rice with milk.

Also he is now trying to mouthing and biting on my legs when he run or play with me. how should i handle that. also he have some itching problem.

THE VETS IN MY REGION ARE WORTHLESS. PAID AND TRIED MANY BUT THEY ARE NOT MUCH QUALIFIED OR EXPERIENCED WITH DOGS IN GENERAL. CANT TELL THE PROBLEM AND PROPER TREATMENT FOR HIM :(

as u can see in clip he humps/ shakes like he have difficulty in breathing, but its like hiccups.

OMG why is he tied up?

This dog is very sick, you must get help for him. Where is his water?

Please stop trying him to get things and get him a decent bed to sleep in.

if he has parvo without wanting to sound mean, a lot of pups don't survive that disease.

The main thing is he is walking and eating and you say he's mouthing and biting legs when playing, if he has the energy to play that's great!

I believe dogs should not be having milk as they are lactose intolerant. is it cows milk?
Try goat milk instead as its meant to be easier to digest and make sure there is always water for him.

For mouthing, try saying no and immediately giving him something else to chew, my dog likes to chew carrots.

Ignore the leg biting and give him lots of cuddles when he's not mouthing or biting.

Try and find a good vet too, I hope he gets better xx

very quick response from a very friendly community, thanks all. i dont think he has parvo, coz its been a month since i have him, no vomiting, no diarrhea, and he eats well. i'm still taking him for regular checking in local vet hospital. i'll post a recent video yesterday of his condition. which is better then this one :)

he stay on leash when hes about to go out. if anyone concern about the chaining :)

Any idea on breed btw ?
Also i'm not planning to train him right away, but i'm myself learning about dogs care, and training which will take many weeks to work on later.

    Thanks

    That's great to hear.

I really don't know about breed but if I was guessing, I'd say maybe a greyhound, whippet type dog mixed with something else?
It looks like some sort of sight hound but until he's put on a lot of weight and healthy it's very difficult to tell as he's so thin.

I'm too much worried about his weight. If he is 3 month as what it seems to me, he must be at least 13KG, which is double for his current weight o_O.

Any suggestion for homemade or natural anti bacterial/itch removal/reverential method?

And any diet suggestion? i wont be using dog food
(out of budget But i think meaty natural food is better and for me cheaper)

I use cow Milk, 1part milk 1 part water mixed for calcium.
i have heard that not all dogs are lactose allergic and with that mixed mil, his stool is ok. that what Dr prescribed me.

I'm sorry but I don't know any natural anti bacterial/itching cures.

Well, my dog gets mostly well cooked lentils, beans, rice, fruit and vegetables but NOT garlic, onion, avocado, grapes or raisins as these are poisonous to dogs, plain natural yogurt, eggs and a small amount of plain cooked meat like chicken, beef strips. She seems very healthy. She has some dry dog food aswell.

If he seems okay on cows milk and the vet says okay then carry on with that, goat milk is believed to be easier digested though.

    Have the vets wormed him?
Sometimes, if a dog has worms that can cause them to get very thin.

Once weaned dogs don't need milk they would be fed by their mothers on regurgitated food.

He needs a good quality diet & several small meals a day.

He looks like a cross breed possibly a whippet x type

I don't know why, but Pharaoh Hound mix comes to mind.

Poor boy, he is so sick with who knows what. If all the vets by you are worthless, try to find one a little further away. Call around and ask to speak with the vet directly before bringing in. But so it fast...he needs help now.

Thanks all for ur kind words, he is not De-wormed yet. Dr said he was too weak to sustain the medication for that. He is much better and my this week Vet visit is specially for his itching and De-worming.

Good Vet medical college is 150 miles in other city. And i cant afford for Bill and transportation right now.
I am finding a part-time job this week also to for his treatment, and as soon i have money i'll take him to the Vet medical college.

The only good vets are in other end of the country who are from abroad also and very good vet.
Today i'll contact them for some guide. hopefully i'll get some help from them.

I'm not sure how much too feed him, bcoz i dont know his exact age. He eats all of it every time whatever amount of food i give him.

@Laurabehjet, i'll try ur suggested diet, hope he likes it :)

I appreciate you are trying to help this poor dog. I found the video quite distressing. I do not think that is 'hiccups'.

My first thought about the diet was cut out all that milk.
I agree worming would be a bit drastic the state he is in.
My little dog survived what they thought was parvo when she was a tiny pup. But it was a long haul and touch and go for a long time and she required 24hr care for about a month.

I really do not think that dog is in any fit state to be being told to 'SIT!' or do anything else - he needs bringing back to health if that is possibly before any attempt at 'training'.

I wish you luck and realise most of us are speaking from the point of view of people who live where vet provision is much much, better than it is where you live.

There is stuff available to 'build up' a sick dog like this but of course all will depend on what is available to you there.

This dog REALLY needs to see a good vet. I'm not even sure you should be 'taking it out' at all looking at the weak condition it is in.

I think it is far more important to get your very sick puppy healthy than to start looking through the internet to find out what breed, if any, he is.

I hope you can help your pup. Does he have to be chained up? He need a really good diet, little & often, a nice soft bed, & fresh water all the time. You can always start to train him when he is better.

@Tangutica i'm very pleased to know ur dog got well. And about hiccups, i'm sorry i didn't cleared it up.
Sorry English is not my main language, so i'm not much good in explaining in English.

He dont have hiccups it seems he have, and thats the behavior he is doing from start along with extreme weakness. which i dont understand what is causing him to shake like that 24/7.

@Darcy Boy thanks 4 ur concern :), i got this pupp only with intention of making him healthy then keep him with me for life which is only and most important for me right now. And u can say that i have a habit to read and find about each n every thing about which interest me; ^_^

@Darcy Boy: i take him out for his poopy time, and he loves to go out in park right in front of my house. other people come with their children at which he sometimes bark or run to play. i don't want any problem to give to others so i chain him when out, in home he is free to roam every where. i don't have a yard or lawn, its a marbled and carpeted house.
Besides yesterday some ppl brought their 6 sheep at which he rush and barked. so i keep him on leash. thats only when he is out for poopy,
At 10pm the park is empty, i let him off leash and do his stuff plus get his legs stretched.

Besides this is my 1st dog experience and unfortunately non healthy pet. i'm learning with time.

*As many ppl suggested, i'll stop giving him milk.
*Beside teaching him sit, i dont force him to do anything. He do sit every time i show him food. But without food, its like WTH is Sit? ^_^ i also do this 2 or 3 times only so he dont jump on me when i bring food to him.

i give him cold water mixed with tap water to make normal cool. i have 3 beds for him and he only go and sits on sand and sometimes on shady part of room.

I haven't used a chain on a dog for over 40 years, my dogs wear collars which are far kinder on the dog

I would be feeding him 6-8 times a day & include protein like chicken. I personally feed a raw diet, but as he isn't too well, easily digested food like plain shredded cooked chicken/fish with "sticky"rice(rice that is slightly overcooked that sticks together)is probably a better option

@JoedeeUK : If u can see the clip carefully, u'll see that he have a color, from which a chain is attached.

I liked ur idea for feeding him, will try that 4 sure. :)
