Selling Staffies online - do they never learn

I've just noticed on a site for buying and selling, a litter of staffies for sale. My response to her was:-

"Unbelievable - breeding and selling staffie puppies online depriving yet one more staffie in rescue a potential home. Staffies are about 75% more llikely to end up in rescues - still you get to make some money for yourself that must justify it."

I've no doubt I am going to be subjected to abuse from her and her friends, but it just makes my blood boil, there are literally 00s of staffies for sale in rescue centres within about a 20 mile radius of where we live and she decides to breed and sell hers at £200 a go.

When you select a staffie to rescue, a home check is essential and you have to meet certain criteria to rehome one. Buying off facebook probably means you turn up, pick one and take the poor little blighter away with you until it grows up becomes a teenager and then gets dumped on the street like the rest of them.

I'm sick and tired of sitting on the sidelines and letting people be - I just find it totally unacceptable.

    Rant over

Hi I got upset last night,on our news not national news,a young girl had bought a chihauhau 14 weeks, not active as a puppy should be,guess where she bought it from a paper, she took it to the Vet (the only sensible thing she has done)it has grade 4 heart murmer and the Vet explained its going to have some horrendous vet bills, she is unemployed so what do you think is going to happen, dog will be abandoned or moved on to another home,it really makes my blood boil, these people advertising in the papers, dont care, they would never say Any problems at all, bring the pup back,as most genuine breeders would. Its just another casualty.crystalgirl

I know I know it breaks my heart, pups pups and more pups and sold to anyone with money :( Not a single care that their pups stand a high chance of either being euthanised or in rescues by age 1. Or reposted on free ad sites because "we don't have time/room/money/brains grrrrr.

What makes my blood boil is when someone gets rid of 1dog to immediately replace it with another
A dog is for life in my book not something disguard or end up in rescue centres

thanks for all your support - I just went back to the site and the abuse she's left me, all in text speak (that I can't really understand)- is unbelievable, so I just left a message asking if she was selling them vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. I hate to think what she is going to come back to me with.

I hate being a snob and I hate stereotyping people and yet the photograph, the selling of puppies and the inability to use any language except abbreviated text speak really says it all.

Scum bag money grabbing idiots, the kind who will put them in rescue if they don't sell (if they are lucky) heard of a litter round here that did not sell and were left in the cage in their own filth starving until a friend of theirs was so appalled she called the police in who with help rescued them :(

I don't see much difference in selling puppies online to selling puppies through any other media. Surely, the aim would be to stop overbreeding.

My boss bought a puppy (not SBT but another popular breed) online from a first time breeder -SHOCK HORROR. Well, all breeders had to start with a first litter at some point, and the best way to reach potential buyers is advertising online.

It is then upto the seller and buyer to ensure that it is the right puppy for the right home.

Such a sad story. And repeated across the country I suspect.

Yep on another site I heard of one guy willing to swap his little JRT for a mobile phone. I know what I do with the bloody mobile phone!

I've asked them if the puppies are microchipped, neutered or vaccinated and the answer was a resounding "mind your own business you bleep bleep bleep". I'll take that as a no.

I'm not sure how selling puppies online would stop overbreeding? Have I misunderstood something?

I think selling online might have its place, although it's not something I would consider.

I believe it's different with staffies. So many end up in the wrong hands and invariably end up in rescue centres if not pts within the first year or two of their lives. If you were a fan of staffies why would you not investigate rescuing one rather than encouraging breeders.

Most people agree that they so often end up with the "wrong type" who have no idea how to train, socialise and generally maintain them.

any dog of any breed can end up in the wrong hands if the pups are sold to who ever is willing to pay the mone.

Personally i would ban sales of pups online regardless of breed.

I would not expect weeks old pups to go to new homes spayed though.

I guess, for to stem that problem, we just would need a law :?
that it's simply not allowed, that everyone who's just funny may breed
and maybe even, like it's already duty, up here in a few parts of North Germany with cats, that they have to neuter their pets

I think in the UK from (I think 2016) microchipping will become law. I am not sure about breeders, whether they will be allowed to sell without a microchip. It isn't the entire answer but it certainly helps.

I hope it means that the authorities will be able to scan dogs and confiscate them from the wrong people i.e those that haven't bothered to microchip. It will also mean that those that are microchipped can be traced back to the owner, reunited if stolen or lost and prosecuted if the dog is dumped on the street.

Responsible breeders do the right thing with having to have a law passed.

Better education of the puppy buyer would help

Yes - huge difference between responsible and irresponsible, no doubt about that. The one's selling that I'm talking about are just kids. The pups are being sold without microchips, vaccinations or neutering.

Hi When people become abusive,it's because they feel guilty, and the swearing proves they have next to none education to express themselves,so dont let them get to you,the puppies are more important,if it was me I would be on phone to the RSPCA, crystalgirl

The problem is crystalgirl, sad to say, they're not even breaking the law or doing anything that the RSPCA would be involved in. Selling puppies on a social network site in this country seems to be perfectly acceptable. I can only respond when I see an advert as strongly as I can to make them reconsider or rethink, not that I think it does that much good but I can at least try. I can't sit by and wonder where on earth those poor puppies are going to end up.

over here, also at only several Federal states, microchipping is already law
though not down here in the South yet :?

but mine got microchipped and I also let get her registered at "Tasso", it's a registered accotiation over here, not sure if you have the same in UK?
it's just all about animal welfare :)
    looks like that

    https://www.tasso.net/online-registrierung

sorry but couldn'd find anything more about in English :?

so if you are member of them, you will get a Tasso dog tag of them too

but I fear, nothing of that would or can hold back any of those irresponsible peeps, for not to breed with their pets and even, if it's only for once to have "oh soooo sweet puppies" :009:
