Sorry won't be signing can't see how you can possibly hold a tv station for the plight of a dog humanly pts after it suffered an injury (which didn't even happen during filming).
Im with the others on this hundreds of dogs are given sleep every day to stop suffering.

Thanks - of course the BBC had nothing to do with the exploitation of this dog purely for entertainment in a 'sport' that is SO dangerous for the dog that they cannot even be insured ... of course the BBC didn't mislead the public by making a 'sport' that is known to be responsible for the untimely death of thousands of redundant, injured, or otherwise surplus greyhounds each year look like jolly good fun all around w/o saying anything about the dark side for the dogs... of course the BBC didn't intentionally not spoil that rose-tinted image presented by telling the viewing public, who loved watching that little dog, that she'd actually been destroyed for a likely treatable injury whilst participating in the jolly good fun because, of course, that's what happens to Irish greyhounds, they are destroyed ... of course the BBC haven't purposely not replied to the many many dog loving people who have complained, or failed to answer the specific questions put to them including what happened to Redwood Rio, who came last in the 'Three Men' sponsored race and has not been heard of since... of course the BBC haven't allowed themselves to be used for advertising by the Irish Tourist Board and Irish Greyhound Board going against their own regulations ... and of course they don't mean to silence any questions on this subject when they remove threads on their feedback forums ... all is well in the World

Well you can take it all over the world and find examples if you like but you are talking about something that happened in the UK. What you and your rescue organisations have been doing would be deemed illegal in some countries - you'd be slammed in jail or worse for protesting about ANYTHING!

That makes it sound very much as if you ONLY care about greyhounds and not any other breed of dog. I am an animal lover - all animals. Not just dogs. I live in a country where animal cruelty is appalling and a dog being PTS would be a blessing for a lot of them.

I wish you luck but still think you are fighting for this cause of yours from the wrong angle.

You saw it as a chance of getting some high profile advertisement for your cause. Did you seriously think the BBC was going to make a programme extolling the joys of greyhound racing and then make another condemning it?

I think they would have left themselves open to be sued had they done so.

Thank you but I also love all animals and spend all my time rescuing dogs but sighthounds in particular where - like the bull breeds - there is a particular problem in the UK ... which is why I will fight their cause from any corner I can!

However if you read on I did say that the example you gave of putting "fit and healthy dogs with NO injuries. Dogs who've done nothing worse than to be abandoned by their owners" is wrong but does not make the destruction of greyhounds right

Yes protesting is illegal in some countries and it's not exactly welcomed in the UK but that just adds to the fact that something does not have to be legal to be right or illegal to be wrong, as there are many discrepancies around the World

Regarding the BBC and whether they should show both sides of the story - their mandate is exactly that and they are duty bound to remain impartial, particularly on controversial subjects such as greyhound racing and this is something they have singularly failed to do, as demonstrated through the Snip Nua cover up, repeated inclusion in features on this 'sport' in the most unlikely programmes (from antiques to house buying), and their subsequent active participation through the 'adoption' of racing dogs in their programmes (Welcome Along on the Greg James show, and Show Me the Bunny on Five Live) ... as such I cannot see how they could have been sued for telling the truth (i.e. both sides of the story including the issues faced by thousands of innocent dogs) but I believe that what they have done is leave themselves open to serious questions regarding their impartiality and comitment to remaining free of advertising

I've signed. I think greyhound racing is sickening and barbaric.

I saw the article the other week where they had found the mass grave. Sad stuff. Hundreds of grey hounds that are registered "vanish". :(

Yes it's utterly shameful and vile ... thousands of dogs (RSPCA estimate around 12,000 in the UK and that will be a conservative estimate) go missing presumed dead every year, many of them just pups less than 18 months old who never make it to the track (~9,000 in an average year!):009:

Until people stand up and say enough is enough the media - in this instance the BBC - will continue to give the impression that all is rosy in the world of greyhound racing and it isn't.
They should admit that Snip Nua was needlessly killed trying to make money for the syndicate. I've got an ex racer who shattered her leg running for fun, it was amputated and she leads a happy life, sadly Snip Nua wasn't given that chance.

I suspect that some of the fat cats at the top of the BBC probably own and race greyhounds themselves.

There is an old adage, you catch more flies with honey than you do with vinegar.

When campaigning for something it is a useful maxim to remember. ;)

I'm not sure how I feel about this to be honest. I don't like what happened to Snip Nua, and I don't like what happens to many dogs who are PTS because no one wants them, they're of no use etc. I don't really like greyhound racing either but I think that getting the BBC to apologise is like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted so to speak.
I think anti-racing campaigners need to focus more on the really bad elements in racing such as those who cut ears off and maim their dogs. The focus needs to be on those who keep their dogs in squalid conditions and the law should be tightened so that those who flout it are more severely punished.
Don't get me wrong...I would like to see the end of greyhound racing one day (I too have an ex-racer), and any "sport" that exploits animals all over the world.
I am anti-racing, but I'm also a realist. I would much rather see effort and money spent on the rehoming of dogs like Snip Nua and more control over the over- breeding of greyhounds in the industry. Personally I'm more pee'd off with Dara and his cronies than I am with the BBC.

I agree with a lot of what you say Zoe but a petition costs us nothing and it's not about getting the BBC simply to apologise, or about a personal dislike of Dara and his funny man crew (although he has a long History of racing dogs with his syndicate and joked on Richard and Judy, a few years back, about sending them to Barcelona, so he does know what goes on :-( ) ...

What happened to Snip Nua epitomises the fate of many thousands of dogs and this petition is about getting the BBC to do the decent thing by telling the truth about the other side of greyhound racing after they have repeatedly promoted a 'rose tinted' view of this 'sport', not just through 'Three Men Go to Ireland' but on a number of unrelated programmes (from antiques shows to home buying programmes) ... not only that, they have actively participated in the 'sport' through their 'adoption' of racing dogs Welcome Along on the Greg James radio show, and Show Me the Bunny on radio five live

If the BBC can now be made to do the right thing and make a public statement, or even redress the balance in their coverage of this 'sport', the reality of greyhound racing could be brought home to hundreds of thousands, if not millions of viewers (the Three Men show had an audience of around 5 million when it first went out, who were all led to believe that it's all just good fun!) ...

The anti racing movement could never before hope to achieve this level of coverage - coverage that could raise awareness on an enormous scale and make people, who have never thought about this issue before, start to ask questions ...

We spend all our time rescuing sighthounds (around 550 in the last 3 years of which around half were greys) and whilst there are some shocking stories and atrocities committed against these dogs, the real problem is massive overbreeding and the apparently widespread acceptance that these dogs are destined to die an untimely death. However hard and however long we try to rehome them, there will never be enough good and suitable homes for all that are surplus to requirements each year and their mass destruction will continue despite all our best efforts

Unless we can get the public to recognise this 'sport' for the abuse that it is, so that they are no more accepting of it as they are dog fighting, bear baiting, child labour or slavery, thousands of dogs will continue to suffer every year ... through the BBC we now have the chance to be a voice for those who have no voice of their own and get the message across loud and clear!

Agree with most of your comments but I can assure you that anti rampaigners do concentrate their efforts on every aspect of this industry.

I admire your passion and dedication to the abolishment of the dispicable 'sport'.

I find it sad that some people see it acceptable that these young healthy dogs are being pts one way or another  just because they are no longer fast enough or were never in the first place and are in fact pretty much bred to die an early death.
