My friend has a whippet who is a lovely dog but has been a bit of a challenge to train (to see the least) he has no recall whatsoever. He gets excited about everything So far he has escaped from 2 harnesses and I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions an escape proof harness! In fact any tips to manage him would be great for her.
I always attach a halti link from the front of my dog's harness to his collar, so if he does slip the harness, he is still attached by the collar. use a whippet collar to prevent him slipping that too in such a situation. Has she tried these harnesses? They are fantastic: http://dog-games-shop.co.uk/perfect-fit-fleece-dog-harness And here's the link for the halti link: http://www.vetuk.co.uk/dog-accessor...c-628_909/halti-link-for-halti-harness-p-2963
Thanks for info, I'll pass it on to her. Funnily enough I had given her a halti link as I didn't use it, but she forgot to put it on the other day and he bolted across 2 roads to chase after another dog. He is back on a long line now, I always thought whippets were laid back dogs but he's a bit of a livewire
My whippets walk well on Gentle Leaders . Whippets are laid back once they mature but can be a bit crazy when they are young ;-)
I've also heard good things about the Dog Games harnesses. Alternatively, I use one from here and clip it to their collar too: www.dog-harnesses.co.uk/
I use Julius K9/Doxlock Harnesses, but have heard good things about Ruffwear harnesses being good for those who easily escape
don't know if something like this is available in the UK, but it looks ideal for a whippet http://savingforsesame.wordpress.com/2009/07/07/ruff-wear-dog-harness/
