So I have got to thinking... One day Pharaoh will go to the bridge and Kismet and I will be alone and when that day comes. I want to look for another dog... Here's what i want from the new dog: Be able to run in pair with Kismet - small stocky husky cross have the strength and stamina to pull a scooter or bike with Kismet Similar size medium - large Strength of personality to put up with Kismet strops and rough play Be able to run offlead will be looking to rescue rather than get from pup, but pure breed or crossbreed considered. Any thoughts on what breeds might suit.. I can contact the breed specific rescues for more info...
Isn't Kismet dog aggressive? or have I got that wrong? Anyway, what about a German Shepherd? or a Northern Inuit type cross from rescue?
She's not dog aggressive... She's reactive to small over excited or aggressive dogs and can get dominant/stroppy. She's fine with dogs her own size or larger and with dogs she knows and polite small dogs... I wouldn't get a small dog with her, as if she loses her temper she could hurt them. But medium or larger dog would be able to handle her no problem. She has had good experiences recently, being able to meet politely with muzzle on, walk with and then play un-muzzled in the house with with visiting dogs; labradors, large terrier, staffy cross, huskies and chesapeke bay retrievers so I am much more optimistic that she will be fine with a new dog in the household
Northern inuit type is definitely on the list Although as i own a huskamute I already have to suffer some nasty bitching at scooter and bikejor meets for my 'designer dog'. I think I may as well wear sack cloth and a bell if i turned up with a NI as well
May be a daft suggestion..but what about a lab? Be energetic enough to keep up with your girly, off lead shouldnt be an issue, and most of them are solid
Labradors are not recommended for scooter or bikejor because of possible problems with their hips... I know my friend wants me to consider chasapeakes But a good lab or lab cross with either good working lines, or well checked hips should be fine... I would have to make sure to have regular hip tests with the vets though...
Wonder if there's a huskapoo or siberadoodle?  .... uh oh... http://www.dogbreedinfo.com/eskapoo.htm
There are loads of husky crosses in rescue these days so at the time you will have no trouble finding the right partner ... I Keep seeing husky cross mastiffs ,now i bet that would annoy the purists .lol
Yep why not! Although relations are improving between us all, we have a great rappor with the people that do the sibe breed resuce stands at shows. There are a few more people getting into scootering and there is a lovely guy that makes scooters who thought they were great at dogs unleashed last year.
I think Husky cross is the most likely dog I'll end up with to be fair.. but wondered if I was overlooking an obvious choice... So thinking pure breeds only... Samoyed would be a possibility what about some of the other spitz? Bhuhunds? Can they still pull? or some of the other stocky draft dogs... could a rottweiller keep up?
To be fair it really is a minority of purists who don't want to see the siberian bloodline get watered down, which I can totally understand ... Most of the sporting scooterers are perfectly friendly and happy to cast the 'alaskan husky' net over the lot and point at the iditarod dogs
true... Dalmatians were originally carriage dogs, the stamina is there, o reason one of them wont pull... theres someone that breeds those near me... though her hand painted sign "Dalmations for sale" doesn't fill me with optimism for her responsible breeding practices... hmmm off to research dalmatians and dalmatian rescue
And cooper even as a puppy kept up with my girls and gave just as good as he got Must meet up again soon for a walk Tash
Huskapoo :? Sounds like you've eaten too much corn Buhunds are pretty small... I was going to suggest another husky until your off lead requirement, everything else fits! I think keeping an eye out for a NI type rescue with recall could work.
