.... they TOTALLY bring out the JRT in Alfie Birds in the garden he will sit and watch, same with butterflies etc etc, mice he will sniff where they were but won't chase, but you add a squirrel into the mix and it's game on He does the "terrier stance" and goes bouncing off up the garden after them... What is it about them that he hates so much?
It's because the squirrels run at speed. My 2 are the same giving chase, but a strange thing happened the other day. Squirrel sitting up in the long grass, Jack(PRT) hadn't seen it, but was ambling in his direction. He got right up close, had a sniff of the squirrel and walked on. I daresay the squirrel was petrified, but staying still he offered no chase situation.
Hehehe squirrels cause so much trouble...My staffie will chase them, my basset will just follow their scents but my staffie x basset used to just follow their scent until she saw some being fed by a group of people, she bolted after em and they all scattered. I got dirty looks
asbo LOVES squirrels anything that gives chase is fair game to him they were bred for ratting though, and people dont understand they can be very terrier like in attitude and hunting instinct.
Urg bane of my life.. They make kestrals preydrive go through the roof. I can't let her off in wooded areas because of them. (well because of her recall round them). They seem to tease the dogs, sit around on the ground, let the dog get really close, then scatter. There are often 3 or more in each tree, it's a nightmare!!!
Anything that moves quickly is fair game for Jennie, be it a bird, cat or squirrel. She has only ever caught one thing, and that was a dirty great rat, ugh!!!! Though the OH was flabberghasted early this morning when she was chasing a squirrel at full speed and he called her off and offered her ball, thinking there'd be no chance she'd give up the chase...........and she chose the ball instead!
