I've gotten really fascinated about the breed and was just wondering if anyone had any experience with them
Just googled as never heard of them - and guessed they are a poodle x pointer - not a UK recognised breed? Not sure you will find many in the UK if any ? Seem to be across the pond think!

I know there a few breeders in Austria and Germany, as the breed started in Germany. I will be moving back to the US so it would be there where I would get one anyways Also, has anyone ever heard of pointing labs? I was looking at a website and I saw a kennel that sells pointing labs, I don't know if I can post a link to it or not.
I had heard on another forum about these pointing labs. Is this kennel in the US? I seem to recall it being the Americans who were breeding them.
Pudelpointers are lovely, but very hard to come by in this country I would imagine. I don't think there are even any breeders of them here? if you were really interested you would probably have to import one from the continent. Labs seem to be able to take part in HPR-like tests and trials in the States, unlike here. The expectations of Labs in USA field trials are VERY different to how they are run here. It is highly unlikely you will find any UK breeder attempting to produce 'pointing' Labradors as they would not hold any purpose in this country.
It's interesting you say that. I know you say field trials are run differently in the US but they have the same pointing breeds as we do, with GSP's and GWP's being very common. So why would the US have any more purpose for pointing labs than the UK? It's not a direct question to you Labradork, more of a musing. With plenty of pointing breeds about that retrieve too, i'm just wondering what breeding pointing labs would bring to the gundog world...
Rough shooting is all round more common in the USA than it is here. Here shooting is far more organized and structured -- in the USA it is much more one man/woman, their gun and their dog(s). So the dog (even if it is a retriever type such as a Labrador) will often perform all tasks, including ones you would typically associate with HPR's such as pointing. Depending on what type of game they were hunting of course. The whole "pointing Lab" thing is a big debate in the USA Lab world, a bit like the show vs. working debate. A lot of working dog advocates are obviously all for using the Lab as an all purpose dog in a HPR like manner. Others believe that by encouraging breeding of dogs for pointing qualities and HPR-like usage is unnecessary and moving the breed away too far from its origins. Yes GSP's and other HPR's are quite common in the USA but Labs are generally considered to be more biddable and easier overall, which I suppose they are.

Ah okay, thank you for the info From what I have seen there are breeding programs in Canada, US, Czech Republic, Austria and Germany, and pretty rare to non-existent in other places. They aren't even popular in Germany where they started :\
