    Little cocker showed up all the other dogs

    Last night an 11 week old tiny cocker joined our training class and i got to say showed every dog there up ..lol
    Perfect sit, stay and walking to heal and his perfect recall caused every woman in the place to let out a big Awww..

    I hear you. My cocker is not too bad, it's just the recall now he has to be consistant with.

    Millie knows a nice sit, down and her wait is comming along unless she can smell cat food then she is out like a shot im getting faster though! We are getting a baby gate, her recall is very good considering she hates to listen -.-

    But she is a complete glut and will do anything for a treat ^^

    My two working cockers were fabulous at 11 weeks old, heel, fetch, sit, paw, touch, recall - the lot!!

    At 6 months now, not so much!!! lol!!

    They are definitely more "rangy" looking than the show cockers, although also taller and longer? Hang on I'll put up pics of them at 11 weeks....

    MUCH prefer the working Cockers. Cracking little dogs with a great attitude and work ethic.

    Show types on the other hand, perhaps I'm unlucky with the ones locally, but they are all either snappy or extremely nervous here. I know they can be nice however and I blame popularity and poor breeding.

    When my OH told me he was getting cockers, I was unimpressed. Had never seen a cocker I liked, always overweight, bad coats, snappy little dogs. Of course I'd only ever met show cockers!

    I had no idea that working cockers were so different!

    Still not one of my favourite breeds though ;)

    Yep, they literally are like entirely different breeds with entirely different temperaments.

    Sadly I've yet to meet a show Cocker that wasn't aggressive towards my dogs, terrified of my dogs or terrified of everything in general.

    Aye? Any show cockers i've seen are very small dogs, "square" shaped with the domed heads - much more like the american cocker, this kind of look;

    [IMG]

    Working cockers, in my experience, look like this;

    Although (a) I'm certainly no expert on either types, and (b)a quick google image search shows that there is a vast array of looks for both types too!!
