my OH used to have a labrador (not a very well bred one) but unfortunately he had to rehome him. im sure he will have another one when he can though.
oh dear, sorry to read that.. any particualr reason to rehome? I hope not a behavioural problem? I do get a cpl labs each year come to me for rehoming, and so far have been very successful in matching them up with the right ppl.
no was nothing to do with the dog, the dog was wonderful. he is now a fully trained bomb disposal dog with the police force. this is him: we still get regular updates on him. he had to be rehomed, because while he was out at work during the day, his mum was meant to look after him (he paid her extra to do this) but instead she ended up just shutting him in the van all day, making out she was looking after him but really she wasnt :-( such a shame.
LoL, I know what you mean!!! Only, I wish this one would eat apple core's and not swallow stones! I caught her with a small stone in her mouth one days last week and went ballistic! :-( I quickly put the muzzle on her! I was testing her whilst I was lying in the sun. I heard her chewing and saw a stone in her mouth! I feed Ciárna on JWB also and I too find that she doesn't put on much weight with it either. Ciárna can not afford to put much weight on because of her hips.
I totally agree. I haven't checked their weight for a while now but at the last weigh in Jasper ( Bench ) was about 39kg. They are both on two cups of Burns Chicken and rice ( 200 grams each per day ) supplemented with 200grams each per day of Pedigree with gravy. My trainer at the time recommended the Burns to help Jasper with weight loss and he has never looked back with even the vet saying that he was the perfect weight.
I know this is an old thread - but the trouble with Labs is they come in so many different shapes and sizes. You've got show bred Labs, some lighter bred working Labs, the more dual purpose lab sitting somewhere inbetween and then Pet bred Labs (not to mention PF and BYB ) Out of my 7 My eldest sits at around 29/30kg Her daughter is my leanest - yet also my heaviest girl at 33kg Her daughter is my stockiest - yet comes in at a mere 27.5kg My eldest other daughter is just under 26kg My yellow is around 32kg - but we have a constant battle with her weight and she is a real scavenger My boys - both show bred, 3 and 1 come in at about 34kg and 30kg So even within that little lot, and even when of the same breeding, you get a handle on how difficult it is to get an 'ideal' weight. You should be able to feel, but not see the ribcage and the dog should have a clearly visible (but not excessive) waist. Food - I now have all of mine on Simpsons Premium Salmon and Potato - it's early days yet, but very pleased with it at the moment - as for quantities, they vary dependent on the dog between about 200 and 400 g a day split over 2 meals. I've know of people with working bred Labs coming in at a mere 22/23kg fully grown, and Show bred Labs hitting 40 + kilos - yet not having an ounce of fat on them.
