all u lovers of the show room staffie breed will hate me but i,m totally in love with the liver coloured i looking for any info at all how to go about getting one of these puppies, please help!
I would perhaps scour rescues first - there is certainly no shortage of Staffies in rescue! Many rescues will rehome nationwide too - Staffie Rescue/Rescue Remedies on here are based in the South East but have homed at least as far as Yorkshire, if not further! If you have no luck or can't find the Staffie to suit you, and decide to go to a breeder, please do your research and find a reputable breeder who does all the appropriate healthtests and breeds for health and temperament, first and foremost, rather than colour. The APBC website has an article on how to spot a good breeder, and I'm sure there are many more online. I would say that any decent breeder will be happy, if not ecstatic, to be grilled, they will understand your concerns and should be pleased to answer any questions. If they aren't then ask yourself what it is they're hiding! http://www.apbc.org.uk/articles/good_breeder Good luck - and please do resist going to your local Free ad papers or similar, it may be easier and cheaper in some instances, but the heartbreak a badly bred puppy can cause is something you can't put a price on (but the vet fees for all the health issues it may suffer, you can!). Given the reputation of the breed, I would say it is doubly important to not support bad breeding - the more well-bred Staffies with solid temperaments out there, the better it is for the breed
thank you so much for the info, and have learned my lesson from local adds prevoiusly in gaining the insulin dependant staffie that has recently pasted, mind you tho the besy dog ave ever had, thanks about the breeder info as well
This is a link to the SBT breed council site with information about health tests that a responsible breeder will do before breeding. http://www.staffords.co.uk/dddt.htm No breeder will specifically breed for the colour liver as it is not a desirable colour. It is a dilute gene. Do you really want a liver colour or do you want a red. Have you seen a liver colour Stafford.
