    Information on Lagotto Romagnolo

This is a breed I've just discovered, a very interesting dog. I'm not sure if I like them or not though!
I just thought dogsey might like to know about this dog, if anybody hadn't heard about it (like me). ;-)
Apparently, the Lagotto helped peasants for centuries hunting waterfowl. But then draining of the marshlands started towards the end of the nineteenth century and the waterfowl disappeared. The dog lost its popularity but then was revived when people found an interesting use for it - truffle hunting!
The dog is still very rare and there are five breeders in the UK in England, they are imports.
Its a shame this dog isn't more popular in my eyes, its meant to be fun-loving and just as good at retrieving than any other dog, and that added talent of truffle-ing! :p
If any dogsey members have seen any, or know about them, could you post it up please?
I would love to know more.

    Jay.

I've met a few dogs of this breed, (never knew the name tho, here in Italy they are just called truffle dogs) The ones I've met have all been typical gun dog personalities lively, friendly, good natured, intelligent, Personally I think they're beautiful dogs.

Saw one at an agility club I went to. Nice looking dog but personally I think it would get tedious with everyone asking you "is it a Poodle?" as I get this all the time with my Kerries and they look much less Poodle-like than the Lagotto! (in my opinion)

Did agility with one and it was an amazing little dog. Looks-wise, it isnt my thing, but she was a cracker.

I own a Lagotto and they are great dogs (but then I would say that!).

They seem to adapt to anything - in the uk there are Lagotto doing agility, heelwork to music, obedience, working trials, gundog work, truffling and showing.

Like any dog they require training (there are very clever and if you don't train them they will train you!) and socialisation but if you put in the work they are fantastic dogs.

I have seen only one, but it was doing Heelwork To Music and is one of Richard Curtis's pupils.
