Well, Teagans hip scores finally came.... Not good i'm afraid. 44:42 (total of 86). For those that don't know me or Teagan....I want to make it clear I was not intending to breed. Teagan was spayed at the start of 2005, and her hip scores were done for my own benefit, and medical purposes.
Oh dear Hevvur, I'm sorry the news isn't so great :-( Teagan will have to take it easy I guess to prolong its eventual effect. Sorry to read about it Hevvur, big hugs to Teagan and yourself.
Oh Hevvur , not good I would advise at all costs keep Teagans weight down even if she looks a little lean, and read up on omega 3 and 6 Essential Fatty Acids, Flax and FBO , Glucosamine and chondroitin. You may not prevent hip problems but supplements may help .
Not good news H, sorry :-( The good point tho is you know now & can take steps to at least combat or keep any future probs to a minimum
Hi Mini, Teagan is already on the supplements listed below Had her on those since September! And of course, her weight is already down! lol Although she needs to get back up to around 45kg (she is still 'skinny' then, but not under/over weight like now)
Hi Heather Those numbers doesn't really tell me anything, but I can gather from your and the others posts that its not good:-( I'm sorry. As if there isnt enough going on at the moment:-( So sorry:-(
Hi Jeanette, thankyou I will explain further, for those who don't know about hip scores. Each hip is scored on 9 different places on the hip. Each point gets a score from 0-6 (or 0-5 on one point). The lower the score, the less signs of Hip Dysplasia there is. The maximum score for each hip is 53. The combined maximum score for both hips is 106. And again, the lower the score the better. Hope this explains a bit!
It's not all gloom & doom My Brett had a hip score of 34:34=68 & never had any problems He as fed a top quality diet & taken swimming to build up the hip muscles He had no hip sockets & despite this was a very active dog & could clear a 6 foot wall if he chose to If you can get her to a dog or equine swmming pool when her operations have fully healed she will really beneift
Hi Joedee - we started swimming in October, but due to Teagans operations, we had to stop, but as soon as her wounds are healed, we will most deffinately be starting again!! She isn't in any pain or discomfort from it, so I am not really worried, and I have been told she has excellent muscle tone, which helps to support her bones
sorry to hear its bad results heather. your doing everything you can for her to give her the best hope for the future.
Thank you for the explanation Heather. Here in Denmark, we use another system, so got a bit confused, but I can see from your explanantion how it is.. So sorry:-(
i think it is pretty high for bm's. at the end of the day h you love and care for her regardless of her hips. its just another to look after for her general health.
That means you baby is way over, do let the breeders know but do not worry too much it does not mean that he will have problems although arthritis is unfortunately inevitable.
