Hi i am new to dogsey. I would like to buy a Westie puppy can any one tell me the best place to buy one in the U.K. or in Scotland Best Regards
Welcome to Dogsey Have a look at the list of accredited breeders on the kennel club website. I recommend you take a look at several litters and talk to lots of different breeders before you settle on a puppy. Not all kennel club breeders are good breeders, so its important you look around When viewing a litter, ask as many questions as you can. A good breeder should be asking you lots of questions too, not just trying to sell you a puppy. Make sure both parents have had all the relevant health tests for the breed. You should be able to view the mum with the pups at the very least, the dad is a bonus. Both parents should be sociable and friendly. Ask the breeder questions about what socialisation they have been doing with the puppies etc etc.
Westie Puppie Hi Hello to you all i have just joined. I hope someone can help me I would like to buy a Westie Puppy Can anyone tell me the best place in the U.K or in Scotland to buy one. Best Regards Stef
Hi Stefan and welcome if I was looking for a Westie puppy the first thing I would do would be to check out the breed clubs, contact the secretary, ask for a list of reputable breeders who have signed up to the code of ethics. This is no guarantee that all will be well but a good starting point. Here is one link you may find helpful.. http://www.thewesthighlandwhiteterri...ng+for+a+puppy... and another.. http://www.thewesthighlandwhiteterri...committee.html
My mum has just bought a beautiful westie pup called Billy she has had westies for years and we recently lost our beautiful Bonnie i went with my mum to look at a number of litters before we chose our Billy. Its hard saying no to those beautiful pups but I was shocked at some of the breeders we went to the first was a lady whose girl at 7 had had 'quite a few litters' the same dad being over 10, I dont know alot but thats v old i thought!! the house was dirty, the pups werent kept clean, they werent wormed and no kind of puppy pack was provided...and it just didnt feel right Mum walked away but the lady said there will be more litters if she changes her mind.... no questions were asked of her which i thought was shocking We also went to a lady who said she didnt like westies!!! she couldnt understand what people saw in them and thought their fur was horrible!! she said she only bred to pay for her horses because people would pay for the pups!!!! The mum was a lovely dog she had a gorgeous temprement. She lived outside looked like she had never seen a brush or a groomer Saw a pic of dad and both of then were far, far removed from breed standard. Mum ended up contacting a recognised breeder where we found Billy. the pup was a little older than would be ideal but she got to see mum and pics of dad, both dogs being stunning and won alot of shows and mum was by all accounts an absolute sweetie! the breeder 'vetted' my mum and provided information and advice beyone expectations. There are so many people out there breeding westies that have no idea...so many skin and digestive problems its such a shame. Id just advise to take your time and get as much advise as u can Good luck finding your pup xxx

Stefan please note You are only allowed one name/account, please do not keep signing up a new account every time you come on here. Please use the account named Scot63man, your additional accounts listed below have been made unusable... petman petman11 petman 22 Thank you
Hi Stefan, I don't know why this should be, if you have a problem logging in please contact Admin using the 'contact us' option at the very bottom of each page. Do not open a new account. The scot60man account has been blocked as from now so you won't be able to use it.
Have you found what you were looking for? If not can I strongly recommend you look up Westie rescue who always have some beautiful dogs looking for their new forever home. Contact them and see if they can help, good luck
I'd always suggest re-homing a Westie these days, instead of buying one. I used to breed Westies and you would be shocked at how many people bought one then ended up giving it away as they could not train them properly. they are feisty little dogs and take a good Alpha leader to keep them in check. Here is a good place to start: http://www.thekennelclub.org.uk/services/public/findarescue/Default.aspx?breed=3082
