If anyone would like to comment on the Lennox case - much interested. I am also looking for information on BSL in relation to Irish Wolfhounds as I have a cross. Thanks, Karen.
welcome to dogsey. irish wolfhounds are legal to own here and i wouldnt think have much to do with BSL maybe the DDA but that's more to do with if any dog no matter what breed is dangerously out of control as for the lennox case i must go do some reading up, i just hope that it doesn't take as long for him to be released as it did for poor bruce xx
Hi, Thanks for reply - I know that Irish Wolfies are banned in a place called Fairfield in Iowa, as are all dogs over 100lbs apparently (Idon't know what they do if your dog is just fat!!). But I don't like BSL because my 'little' pooch could end up on some list at any time. In fact he would probably be safest in Ireland - I assume because of his heritage he would always be welcome there, and maybe N.I. too but maybe not seeing as it's UK. He is not dangerous but he is quite big and if someone attacked him - well, he would probably be bigger than them, so it wouldn't be wise. Not his fault though. The point is - as to who is potentially the most dangerous - Lennox or my Wolfie - my Wolfie definitely. I wonder what N.I. think of Irish Wolfhounds - mine is only a cross but I think they are absolutely beautiful, wonderous giant legacies to be protected. Are they dangerous - sure, they used to kill wolves (although mine hasn't had any practice in that lately). I think though I would rather come face to face with Lennox than a Wolfie like mine if there was no owner present - I would run away from mine but probably give Lennox a pat and check his id tag for a phone number. Just a thought!!
but iowa is in the states, not the uk, lennox was unfortunatly seized as type, there are only 4 banned breeds here in the uk and i dont think any of it is fair as any numpty can own any breed of dog and banning them isnt going to make a difference, they are just going to move onto another breed (such as the staff) as i said irish wolfhounds are not on the banned list, nor do they have any reason to be, there height alone shouldn't be enough to put them there. any dog no matter what size can be 'dangerous' this is why i think BSL is a whole load of BS. i do love the irish wolfhounds though they are gorgeous looking dogs.
Hi, Good point about BSL moving onto other breeds. That is so true - Lennox is part Staff - that would appear to be why he was seized. It is definitely worrying that in breed specific legisaltion the breed doesn't seem to matter, or the temperament, only a few measurements. Diesel in Sheffield (court case tomorrow) is a Staff and has been assessed as 'of type' based on measurements alone. Hopefully he will get home and as he is in England he will get the mandatory insurance although his owner will also get the mandatory criminal record even though he owns a rescue home. Unbelievable!!
Lennox has had his court case postponed again,it's now due to come up in March.Poor boy.Has everyone lit a candle on his webpage?
Hi, Thanks for the information about Lennox. I did know that the court case was postponed to 29 March but I am very happy to hear that others know too.
