Tips on my new mastweiler please!! General Chat

think i will need help with the pics have to start taking some on camera for now they are all on my mobile

The name 'mastweiler' makes me think that the dog belongs on a boat and in control of the mast or something

There is a Rottie/bull mastiff that I know who has the build of a rottie but is a lovely dark brindle, he use to be a lovely dog, but was brought for the wrong reasons, to stay in the garden as a sort of gaurd dog, he doesn't have enough mental/physical stimulation, and has severe barrier aggression to anything that goes past his garden and he lives near a popular dog walking spot , and I'm not sure whether he would bite if he gets out of his garden.

If your little un is black and tan she must have rottie in both sides as black and tan is ressecive so both parents would have to at least carry it, she also sounds like she has a black mask which would hide the tan on her face, can't wait to see pics of her.

I agree, there was no need for people to try and make this into a debate about crossbreeds- especially by someone that owns one! There was no saying that this mating was deliberate either.

OP, make sure you enroll in some puppy training and socialization classes.

in some cases i think some of the x breeds that come out are as nice if not nicer than a pedigree dog

You need to open a free account on something like Photobucket. You then upload your pics onto there, then you copy the IMG code from a pic and paste it into a post here. Then bingo..........pics!!! It is a bit of a faff but we are desperate to see pics of your pup!!!

yes the name mastweiler is a bit odd soundin!! argh dont like the sound of that keeping dog in garden its unfair and bound to encourage aggression of sorts. to me these breed are lovely but need good socialization.
yes both parents have rottie in them as they are both rottie x bull mastiff. shes a feisty little handful already but lovely, yes will upload pics as soon as i work it out

My friend has a rottie x mastiff. She is lovely, obedient and soooo good with my friend's daughter.

Aww Rottie and Mastiffs have got to be my 2nd and 3rd favourite breeds (after Basset, of course! ;-) ) She sounds gorgeous! can't wait to see a photo

but the OP said she specifically wanted this cross... i dont even know what Jakes cross is! i was just asking if there was a purpose for why this cross was bred, but i guess we arent allowed to ask questions like that anymore then if people want to ask about jakes breeding, then thats fine with me and i will always answer the best i can! i obviously have nothing against crossbreeds, as i own one!

There`s a lot of this particular cross around atm. Do you get a less drooly, more athletic mastiff type? is that what the idea is?

i dont recall saying i specifically wanted this cross, i like both breed,s already have a pedigree rottie, knew of this litter and decided on getting one now i have a pup mixed with two of my fave breeds, as i said i know of no particular purpose but after findin an american mastweiler site i am led to believe their health is better

i agree there does seem to be quite alot of this mixed breed and yes i believe you are right, from meeting the parents you can see they are alot less drooly and yes more athletic, i found a site on them and i believe their health in general is better than the individual breeds, however u can never tell with any particular dog. i have had no end of health probs with my older rottie and he came from a good bloodline.

That's interesting, why would the health be better in a pup of two different breeds.

A matter of interest, was the sire and dam of your rotti-+bull mastiff , screened for any of the below???

tbh i dont know as to why the health would be better just a statement i read. both parents were bullmastiff x rottie niether parents were pedigree so it goes way back i doubt either parents were screened

Welcome to dogsey, As far as tips or info on a bullmastiff x rottie, I would just say read as much info you can on both breeds, having owned a rottie before will be a good help to you, but than again your pup could take more of the bullmastiff's temp and traits.
So as much good info and research on both breeds will be needed.
Socialization is key with any puppy, but with a large and powerful breed and there crosses it is essential.
Introducing and familiarizing your pup to new experiences including people, places, objects, dogs and other animals in ways that help your pup learn how to respond and interact with these experiences in a positive way, and without fear.
Socialization is so important, it will help your bullmastiff x rottie pup become a happy, healthy, well behaved, well rounded member of your family.
Reward based trainning methods is the only way to go. And obedience classes are not only fun for you both, but it will help you and your pup bond, an help you teach your pup manners and boundries.
Laying down clear ground rules early in life is a must and consistent firm but fair approach is the key.
Never ever use any training techniques that are cruel or harsh.
Give your pup, lots of love and security, after all, you get out of your dog what you put into them.

Hey I have a mastweiler she is just over 12 months old now and she is a beautiful loving dog she weighs just over 50kg and thinks she is a lap dog as long as there very well socialised you want have a problem also how can I put a pic up of her thanks

Maybe it was to get a bullbreed dog (with Rottie and BM qualities) but from a wider gene pool. That's one possible legitimate reason to breed such a cross.

Of course in reality, that much thought probably hadn't gone into it - just like it doesn't in the majority of other dogs bred, too.
