Being the owner of a small bitch the idea of her being mated with a dog even slightly bigger than her, fills me with absolute horror. I am amazed at your lack of concern for your dogs welfare and that you are actually happy for this mating to have taken place. Any vet worth his salt should have terminated the pregnancy and although I'm confused now whether or not you have taken your dog to the vet, I feel desperately sorry for her. This should not have been allowed to happen but as it did, steps should have been taken to end the pregnancy.

I feel like I'm being bullied to be honest. I know it's not the best situation in the world but she's in good hands. The reason why I said these things happen is because nothing like this has ever happened to me & i'm a responsible dog owner. If I noticed the crack in the fence i would have been able to do something about it. I'm trying to look at it positively because I love her & I'm going to do what it takes to get her through this no matter the cost.

So it has been a few mths now, so that would mean she is about to give birth in the next week.

You say you are going to get help from the vet, so I assume you have not yet seen one.

I hope you mum has experience of threading a rope through a small needle, because thats what going to happen with this poor girl when she whelps...

You have mated a GR (large dog) to a tiny Staffie, this bitch is going to need medical help to whelp her pups, in other words its going to cost you a fortune, more than you can sell the pups for.

She will more than likely need to have a cesarean, if if I was you I would make sure you see a vet today and explain the nature of the mating , otherwise this little girl may die while giving birth.

And I know all this already, I'm not going to post the full conversation that i've had with my vet. I don't even need to think about termination or anything just yet because she's still waiting for her scan. From then on we can make a decision

I'm sorry but the bit I've highlighted is just horrific. Your dog could be seriously ill or die because you are allowing this pregnancy to go ahead. You are not being bullied, you came asking for advice and people are giving it.

When you have been a member on here for a while you will realise that members are passionate about dogs, over population of rescues, unwanted puppies, and puppies born when parents have not had health tests etc....There is nothing personal about the replies you have had, members are just concerned about the situation....You have had some excellent advice and there will loads of support if and when you need it. I hope you stick around to find out just what a great bunch of people we are!

A decision has not been made so having a termination would cost aswell. Like i said the cost doesnt matter to me its for her benefit!

I really hope this is the decision that will be taken. It shocked me that I thought you were happily going ahead with the pregnancy so apologies for getting that wrong. If it were me I wouldn't think twice about getting it done. Your dog is the most important one here.

Thanks for that, and also Fudgeley, you've both reassured me. I think I came across abit too apprehensive in my thread. The situation is highly sensitive to me as well as the guys on here. I'm fully aware about the consequences as i know about these kind of births before. My rottie had 5 pups with another staff and she did have to have a c-section. One of the pups died god bless his soul but it was due to trapped mucus not from the difficulty of the birth. It's unfortunate that this had to happen but I'm really doing the best I can and I'm a strong believer in non-terminal proccedures but if it turns out she is pregnant I would consider it for her own health. I want to thank everyone for sharing there thoughts because that is what i asked for! I just wasn't expecting the reactions I recieved.

40% of the kennel space at Battersea dogs home is taken up with Staffie crosses, FACT.
You are simply adding to this problem. Having read through all these posts I do not believe it is accidental. Your rottie had staffy cross puppies and now your 'rescued' staffy is going to have puppies to a dog considerably larger than her. Do you have any clue as to the implications of this to your bitch?
I've been in your position (larger dog to bitch) however, it wasn't until she was too far gone that I realised she was pregnant (I never saw them mate so was unaware, not a good excuse but that's it) I spent a whole day at the vets with her as she struggled to give birth. She had 6 boys, two died during the birthing process, one had to be put down, and they put down tiny puppies by injecting straight into the heart. One of the surviving pups had brain damage and physical deformities. The veterinary fees for that were £700, and that was 8 years ago so who knows the costs today. I hope you have deep pockets.
Personally if this has only just happened get her down the vets for a termination jab. Don't add to the HUGE staffie cross rescue problem.
I seriously can't believe you said that you are going to have 'some' if you can't find homes for the pups you are going to have to keep the lot!

She has bladder problems and you allow her to be mated and continue with the pregnancy, are you for real?

Oh yes I forgot to mention that bit, a full womb pressing on an already dodgy bladder could cause countless problems for your bitch and possibly a rupture.

So its early days yet, you have spoken to the vet, annd you already have got homes lined up for the pups!!

Why are you having her scanned, ???

I see, so this mating was planned, as you have already allowed your Rottie to produce a litter of cross breeds, and you say you intend to breed from this rescue Staffy anyway,

BTW, the Rottie bitch having the pups by the Staffie, is not the same as your Staffie having pups by a Golden Retriever:shock:

Does it need to be spelt out for you!!

Not sure why we are wsting our breath here, this person is intent on having this littter, it was nto an accident, she has done it before and intends to do it again.!!

My only hope is it costs her a fortune, and the bitch is OK!!

Poor Girl, only with you a couple of months and already pregnant,
the other thing that worries me is these pups as adult dogs, what sort of size will they be? what if they look of 'type'??

I was wondering that Dawn, soup for breakfast??

I would suggest it may be soup time -

    But Just in case....
I would take her to the vets and get her Jabbed now (Alizin works up to 45 days into the pregnancy)

Allowing a small bitch to go ahead with a pregnancy that is likely to produce pups that are too big for her to give birth to shows a severe lack of care for her.

At a year old she is a baby herself and (having a bitch who was also around that young when she produced) she was unable to deal with the pups at all. All 10 of them needed to be hand reared and the bitch suffered severe separation issues after.

I truly hope that you are a wind up - otherwise this poor dog is really going to be put through this trauma. :009:

    Hi,

I know very little about breeding as I have no intention of ever doing it, so this may be a very stupid question but here it comes:

don't they have predictor/urine tests for dogs to see if they're pregnant? do they seriously have to have a scan to tell? Seems a bit strange to me... I thought the scan was to see how many pups there are, not whether there are any pups at all...
