I do. Mine is independent at times and yet needy at others. Strong willed and stubborn. Will not be picked on by any dog as she will retaliate. Playful and bold. She adores playing with big dogs and will encourage them to chase her if at all possible! Very intelligent and quick to learn. Loving and soppy and just the sweetest little dog I could want.
Im proud to say im owned by the most gorgeous JRT in the world! we rescued her when she was a year old, and have been owned by her nearly 5years! Of course like alot of rescue dogs, she had a few problems - but we have worked with them and she has turned into a special little girl. She loves her food, even more so since she was put on raw! She is very dog friendly and people friendly, she loves little kids as long as there not rough with her. She would play all day if the other dogs would let her, she is a noisy player and has to make such a racket when playing. She can be a little barky in the garden, but cant all dogs She loves sleeping in my bed. She is strong willed, and spends alot of her time pleasing herself.. She is intelligent, and learns so quickly. shes eager to please. She loves her cuddles and kisses... Her tail (well her stump and bum) never stops wagging. She has the most deepest, loving eyes. I think she is great, and when i can rescue another..JRT will be top of my list.
I have possibly the worst example of a Jack Russell (although he was quite normal when I chose him) but I love the breed. They have so much character but in a small convenient sized body. My JR could be described as clingy but I prefer to see it as devoted. He definitely is not a family dog, unlike my other two, but if I'm not around he is quite content and doesn't pine. I'm probably one of the worst people who could answer your question because I think they are a fantastic breed. One thing I would say though - if you do decide to go for a JR don't be fooled into paying over the odds for a "rare" colour or coat. The breed standard is specific about colour (51% white) so don't let an unscrupulous breeder sell you a black and tan puppy and tell you it's worth more than its standard litter mates!
Jack russells are big dogs in little bodies! They can be trained to a good level but start young. The same with socialisation. Start early and stick with it. Life is never boring with a terrier!
I had a JR in on foster, she came from a puppy farm and she was just the sweetest thing. I wasn't really into terriers at that point but she did change my mind about the breed. I found her to be happy, cheaky and she really made me laugh. She like to push the boundries every now and then which made me love her more. They have such characters and just happy to be by your side.
Not me! WI have two weimaraners! but our close friends have a JRTeand two poodles, we go away together a lot and the dogs are a pack, the JRT being the leader! A lion in the body of a lamb imo! Great little dogs!
I have a 2/3 yr old jrt, i have owned him for a couple of months now having rehomed him. But I also grew up with JRT's. My current boy is a pleasure in the house, he is quiet and laid back most of the time, he is most definately not boss, but i do have a very dominant large breed bitch in the house so this probably has something to do with it! Out of the house he is a bit of a pain with other dogs and has to be muzzled, though I put this down to the start he had in life (found as a stray, had multiple homes and most likely beaten by people judging by his reactions to other things). He loves to run and play and does have a recall- but only if i shout in a 'imeanit' voice..he doesnt respond if i use a happy high pitched voice like i do with the others lol. In general, they are a very active breed, but i have found(both with the one i grew up with and my current boy) that with two 45minute walks per day and play/stimulation and most of all company in the day he does just fine. He is very much a people person and loves his cuddles and home comforts. If you are thinking of getting one, i would recommend you get one as a pup if it is your first dog- not something i would recommend normally as there are some great dogs in rescues, but with a jrt- they can be very difficult and with a pup you can train and socialize the dog so you have a well balanced dog that is happy and friendly around both people and dogs
We have had ours for a mere four months now, and unlike some of the dogs talked about above, Jimmi is a bit of a pea brain.........a very small pea at that:-( Poor little chap suffers memory loss at times too!! Mind you, he is getting on a bit so perhaps he can be excused. Apart from that discrepancy, he is extremely loving (and has SA which we are working on), desperately sweet and very good with our three year old grandson. He adores life, and has the gentlest nature imagineable. He is our first terrier, and we adore him already. However we would never let him off the lead, as it has become very plain that he chases anything that moves. Initially he was very grumpy when meeting other dogs, but now he is absolutely fine.
I own on as well. Her name is Gracey Mae and my boyfriend says she is the neediest and most spoiled dog ever. She's got some interesting ears, they stick straight up unlike normal jrt's lol. She's my little princess, she plays with a 100 lb dog everyday and she was a great mom, she loves every single dog she meets and shes great with cats. If you talk to someone about a jrt and theyre like "ew i dont like them theyre too high energy" then that person has obviously never had a jack russell terrier. Gracey is the sweetest, cutest, most lovable - take everywhere dog I've owned.. and I'm really thinking about getting a male jrt so she'll have a smaller playmate. :]
Aww thanks I ended up with a JRT/shih tzu in the end - so can have energy bursts, but also quite laid back around the house! He is only 11 weeks at the moment Thanks for all the posts
Ultimate dog in my opinion would love another, had my old girly from when i was quite young till a few years ago, she was a rescue and a fab dog. We did everything together, she followed my like a shadow yet had such a fierce disposition to anyone who even tried to sit next to me let alone anything else, but she was a cracker. We did everything together and when I wasnt around or at school she had a terrible habbit of scaling the sixfoot garden wall and taking off for a days ratting down the sewers or over the fields, to promptly turn up just before i was due home rather smelly! She was fiesty yet loyal, and a dog that could never be replaced! JRT's all the way
Aww. thats an interesting combination, my favorite dogs of all time are cavalier king charles spaniels.
