    What is it about Terriers?

There's something about terriers that sets them aside from other dogs and makes them special....

What is that for you? For me, it's Archie's cheekiness, and the way he is sooo manipulative:

The other day we were walking past the bus stop after a very long walk in the park... sometimes we take the bus home but that day I felt like walking... Archie had other ideas, and plonked his bum down in front of an old lady, giving her abused dog looks.... as if to say 'my mum's so cruel she's gonna make me walk home!' No amount of coaxing would get him to walk! Needless to say we took the bus

That for me says it all :D

I think it's because they are bred to be as little of a "pack" type dog as possible.

They think on their feet, and independantly; which can be invaluable when down a burrow face to face with a badger, otter, what have you, or even to follow it down there in the first place!

This isn't to say other breeds don't have similar traits, it just seems that terriers are happier to demonstrate them!

I've seen Maya apparently think things through, then act on them.... in fact she's written up in a book called "Smarter than Jack" which deals with stories of animal intelligence.

a dog that destroys the garden, goes temporarily deaf, chases anything that moves, takes on any beast despite of size and generally is a scruffy haired destroyer droid in animal form :D, what more could be asked for of a dog?

Yep strawboss that's so true :) This is something I noticed when I had Kato round, if I called them, or asked them to sit, they would both do it, but whereas Kato did it because I asked, Archie did it only because he knew I had a biscuit in my hand

Their cheekiness, the way they think they're boss, their liveliness.

I think the word 'Terrier' means 'Character'. We have only had millie 6 months and Patch 1 month, but we are still learning. Yes they can be totally deaf at times but only when they want to. They can sulk, go into huffs, be obstinate but most of all be very, very Loving. We are totally 'hooked' isn't it great!! :smt049 :smt049

of course terriers, Staffies and EBT's included, are superior to all dogs, JMO but i love them, they are the perfect family dog as long as raised well mainly terriers are small but what they lack in size they sure make up with stature they can run for miles, play with any child for hours, be willing to take part in the family holiday etc etc but their favourite thing at the end of it all is to curl up on the sofa and dream fo what to destroy next

When i'm out walking with Jake sometimes if he just wants to go a different way he will sit down refuse to budge and nudge his head in the direction he wants to go in!

I think what's different about terriers is they are more intelligent than most of the human beings out there
