I do believe that you are right. Max, my American beagle, is surely bred to hunt. He exhibits all the behaviors, takes that serious beagle looking for prey stance with his white flag flying, bays when he catches a scent and has an incredible nose--I swear, he can smell almond butter from 100 yards away. I have actually hunted with beagles, years ago. They were used to flush pheasants and to drive rabbits toward the hunter. I no longer hunt, but I have to admit that there was a kind of wild joy at being part of a pack and listening to those beagles sing.
aw, gorgeous beagles everyone! i dont have a beagle (although, i did want one after watching the film shiloh ) but there is a woman who has a beagle pup that i have met a few times in the park. her pup is gorgeous, he is 5 months old and is a big chunky pup he is called darwin, and i love when he does his beagle howly thing looking forward to meeting him more! there is another beagle who walks in the park, but his/her owner doesnt let him socialise so jake hasnt met him/her.
Just thought I would add some recent pics of Monty - lets try and keep this thread going! "I luuvvee u Mum" "I was sleeping!" "I'm not listening to u Mum" "It wasn't me......honest"
Hi guys, I've not been on for a while but I thought I'd reply to this thread! Loving all the pics of your beagles! Life with a beagle is definately interesting I love my little Beau to bits (but I would change the amount he sheds if I could!!! It's unreal the amount of hair that comes off my dog!). He's 8 months now and a little monkey! He's eaten furniture, the kichen walls, the garden fence and LOTS of his toys! He'll eat anything with the exception of his own food Anyway, here are a few piccies of Beau to add to the collection: Beau at 8 weeks: Caught digging (dirty nose and all!) so looking a bit sheepish Not impressed by my attempt to put him in socks......:
Thanks for the pics Vics. I like the digging one the best. As for the shedding we brought one of these and it seems to help. http://www.groomit.co.uk/
Lovely pics everyone. Vics, Beau looks really big compared to Ruby (she is 9 months) i do find there is a real difference in size to males and females. I will post some more pics of Ruby soon. Just looked at the groom-it bonwilliam, looks quite a good one. Does it cut down the hair alot? We are constantly lint rolling clothes!! Totally agree with Vics the shredding was the biggest suprise when we got Ruby!
Thanks for that. We have a Furminator which I think is quite similar, but once you've started on Beau there's no end to the amount of hair that comes out in the brush! I genuinely thought before I got him, due to all the reading that I'd done, that Beagles didn't shed that much.......How wrong was I!!!! And because he's almost completely white and all my clothes are black its a nightmare My black slate kitchen floor looks more like a carpet most of the time ;-)
I to have black slate floorin in the kitchen!!!! I am constantly brushing and hoovering it and then as soon as there is a bit of movement in there all the fur flys out from somewhere still I use a zoom groom on Ruby, as the breeder recomended this, i do it out in the garden and there is a mass of fur flying aroung the garden............and i probably could brush for hours and still keep getting fur out,im not sure where it all comes from!
Just a bit of an update on our Beagles. Rasha won into Grade 7 (Advance) in Agility last weekend. This is the highest grade you can obtain in agility. There are only two Beagles to reach and compete at this level in the UK at this moment. Other Beagles reached the top in the old system but there were only 5 grades then. Rasha in Medium height and Michelle in the small height. They are litter sisters both out of our girl Willow. Talk about keeping it in the family. I will look forward to competing against some of the worlds top handlers in the Champ classses next year. We will be a bit like Blackpool in the Premiership, we might not win much but we will enjoy it. You never know we might just ruffle a few feathers along the way.
I'm glad there are many Beagles here I just got one last week, he's two months, and so cute, funny & hyperactive here's a pic of him
I just wanted to say hi to all you lucky beagle owners! I met a beagle for the first time yesterday and i'm now completely smitten! They seem to have such amazing charactors. They are most definately on my doggy wish-list now
This has inspired me to dig out more pics of my gorgeous Poppy, the problem is I've found 74 cute ones and can't decide which to post! Em and Poppy x
