    Gundog Training Weekend {GSPs, HWV, Pointers, Weim, Spinone}

Took Oscar to a HPR Training Weekend on Grinton Moor this weekend gone. He was a very good little boy and the trainer was very impressed with, he only had a sight point but sat nicely to the whistle when the birds got up.

Anyway, enjoy the pics. Not too great as my camera is only a point and shoot and of course everyone was miles away whilst taking their turn!

A couple of the group, a very mixed bag and a lovely bunch of people.

One lady with her Lemon Pointer Diana (never did find out the lady's name!).

Arnot, the previous lady's Husband, with both their Pointers (excuse the prong collar).

Emma with her Weim, Molly and Eric, Husband of Bridget....

    ......Bridget with GSP, Evie.

    Oscar the HWV. ;)

    And Gem the GSP.

Marcus working Gem. This dog was amazing and practically transformed during the two days into the complete HPR. They were the only pair in our group to get a full hunt, point and steady flush.

Arnot working his Pointer very briefly as it beggared off into the distance after a couple of walkers and their dog! This dog was very head strong!

Wife and Pointer trying to find Husband and Pointer!

Emma working Molly, a lovely dog who was very attatched to her owner.

Arnot with his Pointer for a second try. He kept the dog on the end of a long line this time which helped a lot. Apart from the bit where the trainer had hold of the line as the dog charged off down a ravine!

Heading back up to start again.

    Emma and Molly.

Diana the Pointer having a go. This dog was again very head strong but learnt very quickly and had improved a great deal over the two days.

Bridget and Evie watching the proceedings.

A nice view thanks to the fabulous weather. :D
    [IMG]

Diana being taken back to the point where she made her mistake.

A rare pic of a still Pointer!

    And a still Weim!

GSP Evie hacing a turn, another excellent dog with a lot of potential.

Retrieving a dead Rabbit, the dog is used for picking up normally bless!

One of the Grouse keeping an eye on us!

    And finally some of Oscar!

    Just before casting off.

This was his last run of the weekend and not his best, he wasn't really casting very wide (a common problem with Vizslak apparently) as I think he was tired.

    All done for the day.

Oscar in the car with Drizzle at the end of the day. Drizzle ain't happy as he chased a Hare right at the end of his run and got a telling off for it.

And finally a couple of shots of the dog the trainer would most like to take home!

    Thanks for looking. :D

Awe Oscar is amazing! :007: I've always wanted a gundog to train, and I've always loved HWV's! Your pictures are lovely, what a great way to spend a day!

I think Drizzle is a brilliant name for an IS, and what a sad face he has. Naughty boy

Just out of interest, do you know why they have the prong collar on the pointer?

Thank you. Oscar was such a good boy, only chased once and sat everytime to the whistle after that. Our trainer said he showed a lot of promise for a 10 month old pup. :D

Drizzle's name suits him perfectly, he always looks miserable!

The couple said the prong collar was on the male Pointer because he was so hard to control. They usually used a figure of eight collar (I assume they mean a GenCon or Canny Collar?), but it was too difficult to put on for the training weekend. I'm surprised they were allowed to use it though as the weekend was arranged by the KC.

Wow, sounds like a weekend i'd love to take part in myself! I love to see dogs on point and I guess the terrain is perfect as you can see exactly what your dog is doing, even at distance.

How did you find out about the weekend?

It was brilliant and our trainer was excellent, really got involved and gave some great advice. The details for the HPR training days are here. I know the second one in March is fully booked, they're very popular (especially up here on Grouse) and we had some one from Switzerland attend this training course. Have ago at applying for the ones in April though, you never know they might have places left. :D

The two Pointers in our group were the most unruly dogs! You should give it a try Claire, I bet you and Codee would love it! :D

Ah, right, organised by the KC. I'm assuming any dog taking part would have to be KC reg? If so, I have a problem as Flynn is a crossbreed!

I think "poo" might be the word!

Ahh quite possibly? I think I did have to fill in a form with Oscar's KC name on etc.

    Oh bum!
