Hi - just to let you all know that Oscar came home on Sunday and is doing fine. A wee baby with a big heart and he wins the heart of everyone who sees him. Visited vet with him on Tuesday and he is A OK. Such a wonderfuyl personality - could just watch him for hours - great entertainment!

I had a cavvy and got her when she was a tiny pup. she is 2yrs old in march 07 and has so many insecurities its unreal. my mum has a yorkie and my cavvy used to go to my mums while i was at work all day, so she could be with the yorkie. They became so attatched to each other, my cavvy craved the yorkie when she came back home to me and likewise, my mums yorkie pined for my cavvy so my mum pleaded with me to keep my cavvy. for the love of the dog and my mum my cavvy now lives at my mums, broke my heart but she is so much happier there with the yorkie.

Cavvies have to be homed with other dogs or in pairs, they are in need of human and canine companionship all the time.

Out of interest, are the different coat colours (Black & Tan, Ruby, Tricolour and Blenheim) associated with slightly different temperaments ? I'm more au-fait with standard poodles and in that breed many say the different coat colours are a good predictor of temperament type (eg. browns are clowns, whites can be sensitive, etc), so wondering about Cavs.

And if anyone has any photos showing the different coats, do post (the photo links in the first post aren't working but then that post was in 2004) !

    Thanks

Thanks Inca, that was quick !

Yes, the validity of a coat-temperament connection is a point of discussion amongst SP breeders too. Some say there's a definite connection, others not.

Anyway, all the coat colours are gorgeous and your gang are real stunners, thanks for posting :smt007.

I may be fostering a Cav in the future (although I need to spend time with some first to see if they set my asthma off). I may well be back with more questions

I think they way they are brought up as well ....well socialised puppies thrive better....my tri colour is lady of the manor LOL ....she says jump the others say how hi but i put that down to her being her alone for the first year ( after i lost my others ) ...not really her colour

India is the black and tan a total headcase LOL ....but her father is rather short of a few brain cells ....they call him Indianna spanner

what more can i say LOL

Hi! I'm new here. I have two Cavaliers, a ruby and a black and tan. As far as temperment, my ruby is laid back and quiet but VERY bossy. She's definitely in charge and loves to just stay close. My black and tan is just silly and very sweet. It took us forever to find a halter that would keep her from gagging herself or us on walks.

Photos of my Cavs - and a few others - can be found on my website:

The videos are difficult to watch though so you may not want to view them.

Hi doss and a big welcome to Dogsey !

You have a beautiful website, although the subject matter is very sad. I'd never heard of Cavalier Episodic Falling but the videos and information you've made available are really educational. Gracie must have been a wonderful little soul to have triggered your dedication to improving people's understanding of EF.

Let's hope the new research brings forth a simple test to identify carriers. Similar work is ongoing in standard poodles to have a test available to identify Addison's and Sebaceous Adenitis carriers.

Good luck with the Cavaliers, they're gorgeous dogs.

Thanks for the nice reply. Gracie belonged to my website partner, Barbara. She's been trying to build awareness about episodic falling since Gracie died in the 1970's. If it hadn't been for her I might still be wondering what was wrong with my dog.

My dog with EF is Penny. She's also got syringo and chronic colitis. At least her little heart is clear so far. Even with all of the health problems, I don't think I'll ever have anything but a Cavalier.

Every genetic test that happens brings new hope that we will find one for episodic falling. I'm glad that they are working on one for poodles. There has just been a genetic test published for disorders for two other breeds plus one on disorder in Border Terriers that is basically the same as episodic falling.

I thought that Cavaliers were like potato chips. I guess it depends on your poison! Mine make me giggle every day. I don't know why it makes me laugh when they go behind a chair and peek out to be let outside or when they sit staring at me, shifting from leg to leg telling me it's time to get through with the computer and come to bed. Or when Zora barks at the TV. She's a big TV watcher. But perhaps the funniest is when they trot off to their crates at night. I must come and lock their crates or they are back staring at me until I do. Bossy pups.
