Our friends lost their Bulldog (old age), earlier this year. They are looking at possibly getting an American Bulldog, next year, spring time. I just wondered if anyone on here can recommend any good breeders? Thanks
they arent a recognized breed in the UK. there are many disreputable breeders of this breed. there are also too many of this breed in rescue, so i would opt for a rescue dog, so as not to add to the unwanted numbers of this breed and discourage the willy nilly breeding of them.
their is good breeders out there, just be careful and do your homework,i think JAME'S kennels in the uk looks ok, they have a website.
My advice to any potential new owner would be to certainly not rush into this but get along to as many shows as possible and see as many dogs first hand as posible and speak to as many breeders as possible. There are good dogs out there but many many bad examples of the breed. The breed does have its problems namely health and temperament issues. The pedigree needs to be looked at thoroughly to eliminate any dogs that could be carrying genetic health problems. It would also be a good idea to join one of the online american bulldog forums as this would be a good place to get relevant info. This breed is nothing like your typical british bulldog and needs to be shown a very firm hand fron puppy stage as eventually you will be owning a dog weighing anywhere around the 100lb mark with the power to match hence the reason so many are ending up in rescue centres. All this said they can be very loyal loving companions but as with all dogs you get out what you put in. So to some up i would say do as much research as possible and take your time and don't rush into anything as these dogs are certainly not for everyone...Cheers..Ian.
Because I think they are not recognised by the American Kennel Club either...maybe wrong but my understanding is they are an unrecognized breed. To become a recognised breed and accepted by the Countries KC , they have to breed to type, have criteria to fulfil, before they are allowed to aproach the KC for recognition
Here's a informative site to look at regards the American Bulldog with some valuable information to give you more of an insight into the breed...Cheers..Ian. http://www.doggehouse.co.uk/
I own 7 American Bulldogs. 2 Johnson's, an old fashioned Stover from Hine's line, 2 standard Scott types, an OSW, and a Painter/Hines. I prefer the standard performance types, but some people prefer the classic bully type. I have bred a few litters using my own stud dog, and also used new studs to create new bloodlines and further the breed. I agree they are not a breed that is everyone's cup of tea, and some people certainly cannot handle a fully grown A.B To look for a reputable breeder, you need to know what type you are after as there are many different types of A.B and they can all look so different. Once you know what you are looking for, you will be able to find a breeder with what you are after. Good luck in your search.
there ar a few in uk [Link rmoved] these are very good as my own was bred from this line .there is allso a breeder on hansdworth road sheffield 13 but dont know much about this breeder . your best bet is the one above james or go to american bull dogforum they have some that want good homes all though some are older dogs take a look and good luck .
Sorry Richmond and others who gave me info. They decided, due to recent events in the dog world, against the ABD. They have gone for a completely different type of dog. Thanks for your advice though xxxx
THEY ARE N.K.C REGISTERD, THEY ARE A RECONISED BREED IN AMERICA THEY PEDIGREES AS LONG AS THEY ARE NOT CROSSED AS WITH ANY DOG BREED. I HAVE 2 BOTH REGISTERED WITH N.K.C AND ABR.UK
