The English and Continental strains of the GSD are different in shape/ weight. However it is still a German Shepherd, not an English Shepherd.
A Staffie bred anywhere in the world is still a Staffie. Because some greedy breeders crossed in from another breed and tried to pass them off as a strain of SBT doesn`t make ISBT a `breed`.
Staffies are nice dogs. Most of the owners are nice too - pity about some of them, who let their breed down.

Ok then, so why when they come into the rescue with that name did people who have worked with staffs and PBs (before the ban) for over 40 years know that it was just a name used to save the dogs from the DDA, this is a name used to get around the ban.

I love Staffs, otherwise I would not of volunteered in a rescue for them, but I will face up to what people use for a name to get around the ban.

And if your explantion about the working and show strain, why would they put another name in front of it instead of just having work and show strains, like they do in other breeds, instead of naming it with a name of a country where you can still get PBs?

So I take it you never get envolved in discutions on subjects that you do not have a 100% understanding of, because if you did that'd make you a hypocrit.

Like others have said, this is an all breeds forum, if you don't like the fact that people that own different breeds get envolved in discutions about other breeds, then may I politely suggest that you iether:

    1. Get used to it, and adjust your attitude accordingly.
    2. Refrain from posting any longer, leave and find somewhere where yourr attitude to other breed owners can be katered for.

That goes for anyone else that shares your oppinion.

Longford, Sorry buddy for abandining ship, but I went fishing
I didn't have any better luck than you have on this post. Looks like you found some people on people aggressive folks. I see jack in the box still dosen't get it but thats OK
I do. How did you get these folks talking about German Shepards english, continental, and they probably never identify them as (German imports) so you might think they can work after all that has been done to them buy everyone else

I think you will find that the long standing members commenting on this thread are not the ones being 'aggressive'. If you want to believe that your Irish Staffy is a proper breed and somehow superior to all other dogs good luck to you. I thought it was a dog like any other. The word 'haters' has been mentioned, but certain people on this thread seem to hate all dogs not of Irish or Pit Bull type. Personally I love dogs, Staffies included. In fact I am one of the only groomers in my area that will take Staffies. I know of a few where they are banned because of the stigma attached to the breed caused by those who glorify the idea of a fighting dog.

This thread is titled `Irish Staffordshire Terrier etc.` There is no such dog as an Irish Staffordshire terrier. There are Irish terriers, and there are terriers, including SBTs, bred in Ireland. In fact there are a lot of puppy farms in Ireland churning out a lot of dogs of all breeds.
So, just out of interest, what breed of dog do you (and your mate) think you`ve got?

That's why I'm asking, I'd rather not misinterpret what someone is saying and draw ill formed conclusions.

Ok Longford, I looked but I can't be sure what you mean by working. For the record I'll state what I mean by "working" my staffy then.....

It mainly involves taking him for a swim, feeding him treats and letting him sit by the fire. To prove his "gameness" I normally let him chase a rubber ball or his radio control car around the garden. That's about as much working as I like to see my staffy do.

I also choose my staffys from the following criteria.
Is it too old and been dumped at a rescue? Does it have health problems? Is it in danger of being put to sleep because its too hard to handle or not been trained?

If the answer is yes then thats my idea of the sort of dog I'd want in my home. I've always chosen my staffies from that list and its done ok by me and my dogs so far.

To some people the above have the makings of great dogs, to others they have the makings of bait dogs.
