I have just aquired a Chi. She wandered into my garden last week and when we found her owner they said they didnt want her so we decided to keep her. I have read up a little about the breed and it does say they are happy with just playing in the garden but I would like to walk her in the morning and evenings. How long a walk would she manage? The fantastic thing about Chis and walks is that they can happily go without a walk if the weather's bad (you may find that Chis think of rain as something awful - apart from my Bailey who loves paddling in the puddles:twisted: ) or, if you fancy a long walk of an hour or more, they will happily oblige. They are so versatile. A couple of my Princesses don't like to walk at all, though I do force the issue occasionally, to keep them healthy and they are not at all overweight. They prefer to run around in the garden and house. Out of my walkers, that really enjoy a walk, I have never been able to out-walk them, they just go on and on
I fully agree with cheekychihuahua. My prince is happy just to run around the garden with his toys but will quite happy go for a walk (If its not raining)
I would say about a half hour each walk. I can walk Venus (I'm thinking she might have a little terrier in her because she's 13 pounds) about a mile at a time before she gets exhausted. But Jack is only 5 pounds and I never take him more than abound our neighborhood (about 2 or 3 blocks) at one time just because he is so small and so young.
Lucky you! I 'came by' my little Chi also via my Granddaughter two and a half years ago. Although I am in my 70's I love walking and thought that I would have to carry Snod. To that end I purchased a dog carrier, called Outward Hound. I first of all took him to the Vets who told me they were hardly little dogs. (I also verified that he didn't need to be dressed in pink or have his toenails painted!!Ahem) I have never had need to use the Dog Carrier, I use it as a baby seat in my car because Snod is a brilliant walker and will happily do a five mile walk, or more, and not be in the least bit tired at the end of it. On the other hand, as I have Rheumatoid Arthritis there are days it is too painful to walk very far and we only do a short walk. I'm sorry this is a long reply but he really enjoys his walks. I even had someone stop me in astonishment at seeing a 'walking Chihuahua'! Best of Luck.
A lady in my local park walks two, and they have no problem keeping up with the bigger dogs. And what`s great is that they are so well socialised. I feel sorry for little dogs who don`t get the fun of walks and playing with others.
Hi our Chi would walk til he dropped I think, he loves walking in the country he does 3 miles no probs I'm sure he would carry on bless him.
my chi loves to walk but he would not worry if he stayed in either, he is so active in the house anyway playing with my 2 indoor cats!!!
