Hi-I was not registered just reading posts looking for anything about breeder problems and I came across someone asking about mixed breeds and just had to register and tell my story. BUYERS BEWARE it seems as though the Goldendoodle is the hot breed right now. You must give a deposit as soon as the litter is born if not sooner to get one. Since it seems to be the hot breed (although contraversial) there are many puppy mills or farm breeders just looking to make money fast. You MUST do your research and find a good breeder, do not choose the breeder for price. The range seems to go from $900. to $2,000. I unfortunatly could not spend over $1,000. for a puppy and let myself get drawn to a PUPPY MILL BREEDER in OH. I gave the deposit spent alot of time on the internet and traveling the 6hr roundtrip to visit the breeder. My husband arranged the 1st vet, obed. class and purchased books and all the things you need for a new puppy. We were, along with my 9yr old son who was so excited to get the puppy HE PICKED, were to finally after a long 8week wait going get our puppy only to be told it was ACCIDENTLY given to another family. I feel completely responsible for all the heartache I created for our family by not choosing a reputable breeder because of price. Please, Please do your research! These are wonderful dogs but be prepared to spend the money and dont deal with puppy mill breeders that dont care enough to even keep records on which puppy was promised to which family.
Hi and welcome to Dogsey. I am so sorry you suffered this way. No advice or judgement offered as you have already suffered, so sad that this should happen xxxx
hello and welcome Not sure what your warning is attributed too, A sloppy breeder who does not keep records of which pup goes to which owner OR A GD breeder.. your tittle suggest you are warning people about buying a GD , the latest disgner breed Did you get a replacement puppy or your deposit back:?
Jackie I was suggesting that anyone purchasing any breed should be very careful when choosing a breeder and ASK QUESTIONS! I went into my own purchase being ignorant to the the proscess. I neglected to ask alot of important questions, I ended up with a "sloppy breeder". The breeder I chose turned out to be a puppy mill that did not keep records proper records. We were to have 1st choice on litter, drove the 6 hr roundtrip twice, took my little boy to pick his puppy only to be told "oops we made a huge mistake and gave your puppy to another family 2 days ago". This was very heartbreaking to my son as well as my husband and I. The breeder did offer our deposit back or to take the last remaining pup in the litter. We went from 1st choice to taking the last pup that was very shy, unsociable, underweight with a poor coat. After 2 days we decided to travel to get her as we had already had our home ready, purchased the new puppy items needed and had the 1st vet visit scheduled, had already discussed training with a trainer. We were ready. After much negativity I am very happy to post that just maybe this was the pup we were meant to have. She is such a wonderful addition to our family. She has been examined by our vet that confirms she is underweight "must have been the runt". I have been serving her ground meat with rice mixed with Nutro and have been seeing a difference already. "Teddy" has been very social and playful, we love her to pieces! 10 days later and not potty training well but I'm sure we'll get it together. Anyway long story short- just wanting to let anyone know BEWARE of sloppy breeders and save yourself and family alot of heartache, do your research that I neglected to do because bad breeders are out there! But......we love our Goldendoodle! Sherry
Jackie please look for my reply-I think I posted to you in wrong area, I posted it to a reply to myself. oops
Thanks to all who have listened to my frustration, I have put it all behind me now and am looking foward to a long happy relationship with our new family member named Teddy! Any advise on training of a 10 week old pup would be greatly appreciated!
So pleased that it has worked out for you and that you have such a wonderful pup! I would recommend reading "The Art of Raising a Puppy" by The Monks of New Skete. I found this book really interesting and informative. Also has a good section on crate training if you want to crate train your little Teddy
