Info for new Bullmastiff Owners please

My hubby's boss has taken on a young Bullmastiff puppy, he's about 6-7 months old as a potential guard dog, but the wife met the puppy and said "Find it a good home or find one for yourself"

They are now going to keep him as a pet and I said I would find out what puppy should be fed, high or low protein food, also should they walk him on a collar or a half choke and at what age can they get him catrasted :?: :?:

He seems very obedient but is lacking in some manners so they are going to find training classes for him.

I'm in Danes and I'm not too sure what to advise so thought I would ask on here

at this age i would usually feed arden grange large breed puppy/junior not too much protein as it can send them a little hyper, as for collars it would depend on how well they walked, mine walk very well and we use half check collars, if they pull like a steam train then i would be looking at a head collar.
As for age for being castrasted i personally recommend my puppy buyers about 18 months as they are a slow maturing breed, as for the puppy being taken on as a potential guard dog this could casue problems as they are naturally a guarding breed that instinct i would not encourage it and i would not like a 60kg dog at the kevin stage who thinks its his job to guard everything.

Lots of good traning classes and lot of meeting new people if raised right they can be the most loving pets ever, my 2 love nothing more than cuddeling up on the sofa with either me or the kids and i find the boys especially cuddley my big man loves nothing more than climbing into bed with me and laying his head on my shoulder and us having a cheek to cheek cuddle

    Thank you so much Denbully.

His local petshop recommended Arden Grange, but I wasn't sure as the protein level was 27% and in Danes of that age we would use a lower protein food.

The poor laddie wasn't much good as a guard dog as he just wanted attention from people and as I said the wife was not happy with him being used for this :x .

I was going to pass over the numbers for Bully Rescues but they have him at home now and he gets on well with all the family and their Cavvie, so I think he wil be staying.

I will pass on your recommendations.
