He is gorgeous, he may be a distant relative of my Sapphire as she has a lighter, feint version of his coat. I was going to take on a very similar looking NI about 2 years ago, same name too, but he was already taken when I enquired about him, if this is the same dog he is a full NI. Could be a different dog of course as Axel is a popular name. Hope he finds a forever home, he is lovely, I am very tempted but my lot are not calm.
Ali i was going to say the same thing in regards to Saff.. her coat colour is very similar, but less bold.
If he's a full NI, there must have been something else in the original mix as that kind of coat colouring doesn't occur in Sibes, Mals or GSDs. I also think that there is more than a touch of cattle dog about him. Mick
There was a breeder who I believe was unable to register her dogs with the NIS and she 'went it alone'. She called her dogs 'CHIMAYO INUIT SNOWDOGS', I believe her original dogs were NIDs but then she added other things, not sure what. Some of her dogs had a distinctive look as has the dog in the advert. Not sure if I have any pics on my other comp.
Here is an old advert, 2006 (as you can see) , I have taken the breeders name and phone no off (as I don't know if they can be shown on here..) website link does not seem to work, these are the two pics from the add: CHIMAYO INIUT STUD DOG Visitors Reviews | Add to Favorites | Other Ads by this User | Refer it to Friends More ads in norwich | Report this ad to Admin LISTING PHOTOS Click photo to enlarge Page Views: 1334 Date Added: 19/10/2006 Last Updated: 19/10/2006 Price: £300 Description: CHIMAYO INUIT stud dogs, 3 available City: norwich County: norfolk Country: United Kingdom Web-site: http://www.chimayoinuits.com View Map: Click Here to view E-mail: Reply to Ad
Well, all this Chimayo talk got me thinking..... I remember when I looked at the breeders website (a while back), she had a dog for rehoming and she said it was a NID. So, she is pretty open (I guess) as to the fact that some of her NIDs were mixed with other breeds but it did not say what on her website, at that time, it just refered to the dogs as the Chimayo Inuit Snow Dog. So I have looked about and I found this on a different forum. by a CI owner: 'A Chimayo is northerin Inuit bred with a little Alsation and White Wolf, he has a beautiful temperament although quite territorial where other dogs are concerned.' and this on another forum: One is a Chimayo inuit - a northern inuit x canadian snow dog cross the other is also listed as an inuit but is an inuit x sarloos cross about the size of german shepherds ( dogs not people ) with a lovely temperaments. They are wolf look-a-likes So, I am non the wiser..........
One thing I still dont get is who decided if a NI is a full NI? Makes me sway more to they are a type not a breed.
Well, I think her original dogs were NIS reg, then when she was no longer with the NIS, I believe the crossing of some of her dogs happened then.
Here is a website, similar looking dogs: http://www.freewebs.com/tivatala/puppyfrompastlitters.htm Especially pic no 7. They are pretty distinctive with the spotting.
that is the breeder that I enquired about homing Axel when he was there, but someone had him before I had chance to go and see him, Axel was about 5-6 months old then. look at the pedigree on that site, pure bred NI sire and dam
ps not saying whether these guys are full NID or not ref the pedigree, there has been huge debates about pedigrees (for these dogs) in the past. I can only say my opinion and that is, I have never seen NIDs that have that distinctive colouring other than from that breeders dogs.
Yes this is Sapphires breeder, not the breeder of Axel. Chimayo was with NIS but I believe left to join BIDC, then became independent. Chimayo have a Canadian Eskimo dog, which I believe has now been added to their lines,
there have been huge debates about quite a few NI pedigrees, and no one knows exactly what breeds went into making the NI in the first place, the colouring could be a throw back to anything
