Parson/jack russell terriers.. which type of ears do they have?

I was just wondering of those who have parsons/jacks which type of ears does your dog have?
The drop V, the prick ears or the semi-prick?

and which do you prefer, if any?

Here's my Spotty - she was a prick ear dog from the age of 2

and here's my Missy, she is a semi prick ear dog

I actually like the prick and semi prick - as they are so full of character  And they move about like radar

Our Sally (JRT) had the pricked.

Pappi (gary's JRT) has the semi pricked.

    I think both are pretty:lol:

What a coincidence that you've posted this thread...OH and I were just talking about JRT ears earlier this week.

OH commented on a JRT with huge ears - I just pointed out that they only seemed bigger because they weren't folded over.

Personally I love the pricked ears, as you say MissE, they add so much character :)

PS - I've never seen a photo of Spotty before, she was a real sweetie :)

She was 17+ 1/2 in that photo Fiona, and she was a darling :049:
She actually had the tips just folded over when we got her at 18 months but by 2 years old the ears were fully prick. I've had other jack owners tell me that it can take until 2 for the ears to decide what they want to do :)

The Breed Standards for Parsons and Jack Russells (FCI) both say the ears should be dropped.

I dont mind just so long as the ears are left to do what they are supposed to do
Silly breed standards have people gluing ears and stuff - ewww.
Agree the upright ears are soo expressive

Interesting what you say about the ears taking a while to settle cos Ben is 2 now and one of his ears is really thinking about becoming pricked (he must have heard me say that I love both and is trying to give me both)

Thankfully Pam, I don't know any jack owner or breeder who would glue ears into position just to meet a standard!

The majority of the jack owners I know delight in the fact they are all so different.. and I do know a couple who have one ear over and one ear pricked! Ben would be in good company

oh please, don't turn this into a what's right, what's not.
I asked owners of the dogs what they had and what they preferred.

Pam, that doesn't surprise me about the gluing of the ears. I just can't get my head around people wanting their dogs to conform to a standard (just because I don't believe it's important, not saying it isn't to some people).

My vet said the other day that Bryan is a 'fine example of a Jack Russell although we thought he's too tall to be one.

Anyhoo, he has the foldy over ears which look very cute. But I don't mind what ears he has. He could have one ear and I'd still love the bones of him

I love the fact jacks have such a variance in ear set, harvey has dropped ears and if they ere pricked they would look too big for his head! I love how he looks, but i'd love him just the same if they were diffrent, do love dogs with one ear up and one down, although you can get that with air wind assisstance!

Bryan is such a cutie - and I love your saying "I'd still love the bones of him" That's how I've felt about both my jacks.
I think Bryan's ears suit him well - never having had a jack with drop v - do they move around too, like radar?
That's so noticeable with the prick and semi prick!
Like Mish said of Missy's ears - thanks Mish - it does make them very expressive. Actually her ears give me lots of amusement watching them change with her mood. Just wondering if Bryan's or Harvey's do the same too? Spotty's never did as much moving as Missy's do - hers really are wild :)

Milo has floppy over ears. I don't think prick ears would suit him. I don't mind what the ears are really as they seem to suit the dogs face they are on.
If I had to be really really picky and choose one then I think it would be floppy ears.

Milo looks like a shaved version of Bryan

Yeah Bryan's ears move around all over the place. I'll have to get a video of him. When he's in a naughty mood his ears go at a certain agnle so we call them his 'naughty ears'.

We say 'Put those naughty ears away!' lol lol lol

Depends if the dog does agility 8) I think this one uses her ears for lift, steering and air speed control

    Her common JRT modes

    Floppy

    Pricked
