Can you tell which "lines" a GSD comes from by looking at it? Discussions

Thanks for that Helen. I am still convinced that Zena is mainly english obedience lines, but am happy for Pam or Dyane to give their opinions :)

She has a good pedigree IMO - I love the Foxfold and the Gefni dogs :)

Stuart and his son Tom produce some excellent working dogs and both compete at WUSV events.

I agree, and if I ever do go for a pure working line dog I will most likely go to Stuart (or Tom) for one. I have also heard excellent reports on the Latchets dogs.

Norma produces some really nice dogs imo. She has a website, although I don't think it has been updated for a while, but you might find it interesting Helen.

    That might be easier.

Unlike most people on here I'm not the greatest of fans of the Foxfold or Gefni dogs not because they are longcoats but on health & genetic matters that lie hidden behind the pedigree

BTW I believe Norma Ansell had a stroke some time back. I last saw her at the BAGSD Ch Obedience in Birmingham a couple of years back. She hasn't spoken to me since I won a class she was also in with her first GSD, I took her to the show in her van as she did not drive at that time & was with her first Husband(Ian Butler)at the time & he was working & since that date she has totally ignored me, not that it bothers me 1 little bit & I thought it was very funny that she spoke at length to my friend who was my ring steward & ignored me-my friend & I laughed all the way home about it

It wasn't a "breed"show is was an obedience show & I was judging my friend was stewarding for me-we just thought it was so funny to still be ignoring someone over something that happened over 30 years before, she was obviously still annoyed that a judge could possibly think my BC worked better than her wonderful"Nibs"(actually he was unplaced & it was my bitches last A)

I can't speak for the current dogs but my last shepherd was a Foxfold and she lived to be almost 15 years old without any health problems whatsoever.

... and my health testing certificates that came with my pedigree could not be better, especially the hip scores of 2/4 and 0/4 with elbows of 0, I'd call that pretty good, considering 19 is acceptable!

I don't worry about any "hidden" worries, all I know is all of her dogs have been fit and healthy up to a right old age and I have in fact seen a lot of them in the flesh when collecting my current pup. Anyways, I like that "look" of them especially as they're longcoats:grin:

I think to be fair if you are claiming that there are problems with the Foxfold and Gefni lines you need to state exactly what health and genetic matters you are concerned about.

I think so too quite honestly, coz if you're saying they're "hidden" you are implying they're lying somewhere along the line, or maybe not telling the truth, and either way that means you are perhaps "libelling" them??? It's a bit worrying to say the least!

Hi the numbers are KC reistration numbers and hip score results, you could possibly do a search on the names see if anyone as posted pics or someone on here might have them.
