My pack bitches all live together, of course, but they won't accept this one in and she would be better in a pet home where she isn't living under constant threat from the other dogs who have made it very clear to her that she isn't welcome.

Would you have me keep her, living a life of intimidation? or rehome her to somewhere she can live a happy life?

I don't believe potential owners come onto forums to look for a dog - they go direct to the breeders themselves.

My website explains in great detail about the dogs, health, diet, training etc. So what have I missed out?

My bitches are socialised and being pack leader doesn't mean I have to force dogs to live together that don't like each other! I understand the pack order and dog behaviour and I won't leave a dog to live a life being intimidated.

Andre may have 16 bitches but they are not all in one enclosure lol

    Dear all

I have been watching this forum for sometime without post. The majority of people appear to have valid viewpoints which are unfortunately overshadowed by Kcjacs continuous sniping.

    So heres my viewpoint:

I, myself, have 2 cry-wolf Saarloos/NI crosses. I have visited both Shoshone and cry wolf kennels. Both are excellent kennels who put the dogs first above everything else.

A crossbreed is HALF THE PRICE of a pedigree Saarloos. How does this constitute the breeder being motivated by money?

I owned a variety of breeds prior to having a Saarloos X. A wolfdog IS different in behaviour and training to any other dog I have previously known. This was made perfectly clear to me prior to buying a dog and is very clear on the website. I was invited to visit the kennels at any time and felt under no pressure to part with my money at any point. Furthermore I was offered the opportunity of a full refund if I changed my mind prior to whelping.

These dogs are not an extension of my ego and they certainly wouldnt do anything I said if that's how I viewed them. Essentially, I was originally looking for a dog that will do 30 mile hillwalks without collapsing! These guys fit the bill. Yes-they look amazing but I really fell in love with the breed after visiting cry wolf and watching their behaviour.

There have been lots of posts about "training" and the difficulty in training wolfdogs. As I have explained before I have owned various dogbreeds before and these guys are completely different. Some people have mentioned that theyve worked a lot with NIs. These are a very different kettle of fish to a Saarloos or Saarloo X. Why? Because of the more recent wolf content.

The average dogs adult brain matures to about the level of a 4 month old wolfpup. Wolfdogs (with their recent wolf content), therefore, possess a higher level of intelligence than a "normal dog".(THIS DOES NOT MEAN THEY ARE BETTER JUST DIFFERENT) I hate this term but cant think of another im afraid! Higher intelligence does not mean that they can do more tricks on command. Primarily my dogs THINK MORE INDEPENDENTLY WITHIN THE PACK. They need more of a reason to do something(not just food). Therefore, repetitive heelwork, roll over and all that stuff is not effective.

My dogs recall most of the time, sit and leave prey when I tell them. They are also very relaxed on the lead, great with kids and other dogs. Thats all I want. If I had wanted a dog to do lots of tricks I wouldve gotten another lab or collie which wouldve been great in its own way.

People have different dogs for different reasons. Its a shame that some people on this forum (NOT ALL) cannot accept this.

    Hello

That was very well put. Yes they are more intelligent - and probably too intelligent to do 'silly tricks' lol

They do have a way about them - as if they have been here before.

They think and reason but don't do things blindly - there has to be a purpose.

They are certainly different to other breeds though and thats probably why I love them.

Why not have a pure Saarloos? Why cross them with NI?

oh right - just when you started your post "As the only breeder ....." I assumed you meant yourself.

I'm certainly not the only breeder on here breeding wolfdogs.

Hi geezer, and welcome to dogsey.

I have said before, that a lot of the good usefull posts can be lost in amongst all the not so usefull ones. Without success I must admit. It seems to me that the world of wolfdogs/lookalikes, is quite a highly charged environment, I think that, some people could benafit from taking a step back sometimes. Though I understand that people on both sides have very strong emotional views.

I'd love to hear more about your dogs and how they differ to other breeds, and maybe see some pics.

Sandra you seem to love any breed that makes money, wasnt long ago it was Nis and what was it before that am sure there was another.

I love the way its my fault the Cry Wolf dog had a shock collar on, how the hell they figure that out?
Obviously the owner didnt feel she could ask Charlie for advice with regards training her dog or she didnt respect his opinion.
And as for her sister who was the same cant be just coincidence can it?
I hate to admit it but Julie Kelham was right she was giving warnings out about these dogs ages ago.
I love my new nickname fatjack may ask Azz to change it for me.

I don't think people should worry about Shoshone kennels, yes she has a number of bitches and breeds quite a few litters per year but the dogs are really well cared for and AT knows what she's doing. What the we SHOULD worry about are the hundreds plus pups per month coming from Irish puppy farms and dealers, that's what needs to be stopped.
