Thank you... didn't mean to hijack this thread but would make a new one if people would like!

OK so I can't link directly to the lovely Malinois girl in rescue... but I can link to pics of her *grin*

I would love this girl, and she would be a great mate for Merlin.

So... who would be up for taking her on?

Tried to post a link to Hope rescue but Dogsey objected :(

A year old I gather - there are a few people in the UK now breeding Malinois for security/police. I met one myself and went to meet his dogs & puppies about 4 yrs ago.

But it would seem, unlike the KC show breeders of Malis, the working Mali breeders are unwilling to take back dogs that need to be rehomed. Hence there are many turning up in rescue, and to be quite honest, some of the rescues aren't knowledgeable enough to safely rehome them...

They are nothing like a GSD... so homing them to a GSD-savvy home may not work... neither are they like BCs, they are something unique and in between, and will not suit heavy handedness - sensitive beyond belief but at the same time need a strong hand (within the framework you have already established with the dog). I know that doesn't make much sense, but it would if you owned one!

You will know that " back in the day" all the lines were mixed anyway! One of our Gronnies was from a mixed litter. In a few of the pics his expression is like hers...a little bit

Yes! I do see what you mean - she has a wider head than your other Gronny, wider set ears too like Merlin :) She also looks like she's wearing Merlin's occasional "Duh?" expression with the mouth slightly open, just showing the lower teeth (sometimes head cocked as well), which makes him look lovably gormless!

As to him looking Collie, this is one of him at about 20 months before he really matured & filled out:
[IMG] Very Belgian! He looks a little high over the croup but that's his coat, which is wavier than a true belgian coat.

I met my first Belgians in 1987 - a stately pair of Tervuerens, when friends asked me to judge a novelty class at a weeny little charity fun dog show. I was totally smitten but couldn't have a dog at the time although I had grown up with them and done training with family dogs. I held onto that Belgian dream for about 20 years, really hoping I could have one when the time came, not entirely knowing a great deal about living with one  , but willing to train myself to be the right kind of owner if necessary. They don't come into rescue very often so I was beginning to despair when I did finally decide the time was right - and up popped this litter only a couple of miles away.

I went to see them at 7 weeks and he chose me! Couldn't take his eyes off me from the moment I walked in the door, and after a cuddle & play, he laid down in the middle of the pen still staring at me while his littermates carried on being puppies. Sadly I lost all his baby pics when my old computer died.

Not sure I can have another dog right now, but maybe in the next year or so, perhaps if I move, but I think you know what it'll be... I met a fabulous, petite little Tervueren bitch at Paws in the Park last June... ;-)

    Hi,
The photos is of my fourth Mali, they are a little tough to train at first as they are quite dominant but it is so worth it, loyal, very intelligent, great with my grandchildren, I could go on forever. I had a magic border collie before but I do prefer the Mali, hope this helps.

Would love to talk with fellow Malinois owners, is there a forum for us brave souls that took on this breed and totally fell in love. (I am on my fourth!)

I must admit I really like these dogs. Very nice temperments (from my perspective) super drivy and trainable. They also seem very healthy, low hip scores and very little congenitial problems compared to some breeds.

    They look lovely too.

Hi Maggi :) I have a Malinois called Kiah (I posted earlier on pg 2) she is just the BEST dog in the world I love her! She's totally bonkers, I do agility with her and she adores it, but at home... different dog, couch potato!!

Wouldn't change her for the world

They do say that once a Belgian owner, you would never have another one, or never have another breed :)

I'm in the latter category :)
Mine is as annoying as heck some days - lol - but at home he is the best dog in the world and so loving and faithful to his friends. I always liked a challenge!

    I've got a Mali x GSD ( Czech ) She is 8 Months old.
Definately more like a Mali I think, she is noisy, hyper,so easy to train & absolutely bonkers.
She has Mali feet, legs & chest & a really short dense coat.
    Swims like a fish too.
She is growing steadily, can't wait to see how she ends up.
