Shouldn't have blue eyes and what is medium haired?? Papers cost about £12 so why there would be an additional cost I have no idea - screams £££££making litter to me!
I don't know any decent breeders of ANY breed that sell dogs and bitches at different prices ..... what does everyone else think?
I have never come across it before in any breed BUT i spoke to 3 kc registered Chi breeders today and all have said the exact same thing but no-one has said why. They all just said thats how Chi's are
Please be careful in breeds like chihuahuas there are more than the usual 'breeding for money' people in there. I don't mean puppy farmers necessarily but there a lot of people who will buy a chihuahua bitch as an investment as well as the family pet. It is the same in mini dachs. Different sex puppies should not be charged any more or any less, you often see in freeads many bitches going for more than their male siblings, it's common place in most breeds when they come from 'hobby' breeders or puppy farms. A good quality breeder of any breed will not sell bitches at a higher price than dogs and will not charge more for a 'rare' colour. In mini dachs, silver dapples (like my Dusty) are often seen at prices £200-300 more than their black and tan siblings, and bitches even more. I would not touch such a breeder with a barge pole. Dusty cost me no more than her 2 black and tan siblings and no more than her brother either. I have a good friend breeds chi's, they are mostly fawns and white, however the last pup she kept was a dog, she had 2 litters from her bitch who threw all dogs each time (2 the first litter then 3 the second) so she was unable to keep a bitch to carry on the lines this time round so is hoping for a wee girl from her boy when the time comes. She didn't want to breed any more from this particular bitch as felt 2 was enough, whereas many would have kept breeding her 'til she threw a bitch. That is the thing with Chi's as their litters are usually so small it's more difficult to get 'what you want' so to speak as you don't have much choice in a litter and sometimes, because of this, they are overbred. My friend sells both sex and all colours produced at the same price and are well under a grand. Just be careful. x
To be honest Jem, you've already experienced the Chi world by the calls you have made. Like I said before, everything I say, Muddiwarx says the opposite. So if you want to ask any questions about Chis feel free to pm me Having had many a conversation with respected Chi breeders (some of these show too) I cannot believe that any of them will sell a Chi bitch of the quality you desire under a grand. If you are lucky enough to buy such a dog for that sort of money, I'd be interested to hear.;-) Let's see if these KC registered, breed standard, quality Chi bitches materialise - for under a grand - me thinks not
Hi Jem, Hope you don't mind but I took the liberty of making some enquiries about a chocolate l/c chi bitch, kc reg, breed standard, all the stuff you are interested in, just to see if I was going insane, as my advice seemed so different to others anyways, this was the reply (very well known, respected Breeder - he shows too) So that explains why there are not many out there (don't do well in the show ring). I realise this info doesn't help you but I think it makes the point that you may have a long search on your hands and that getting on a waiting list would be the best idea. Failing that, you could always get Muddiwarx to put you in touch with his friend that sells the above for £700
HER friend.. I am actually beginning to take offence at the way you are practically calling Julie a liar..(I am because I know she is too nice to).. Everyone knows different people..doens't mean she is wrong...... Maybe the dogs her friend breeds are just as good as the more expensive ones..but that her friend isn't in it for the money!! but more for the breed... Doesn't mean she is telling lies..
First of all I apologise for saying Muddiwarx was HE not SHE but that is all I apologise for. I haven't said Muddiwarx is a liar at all. Your words not mine! I do find it quite amazing that her friend sells such dogs at that price and I think I am allowed to have that opinion. However, I don't think you have the right to say I am calling Muddiwarx a liar. Don't twist my words - thank you. I've seen some of your posts on here and you are quite good at turning a thread into an argument. Up until now this thread has been civil. Even though information has differed.
Hi Muddiwarx, I apologise for referring to you as a male. Easy mistake, I hope you understand. Also, I have not called you a liar (despite what Louise 13 has posted) and I suggested that Jem ask you to put her in touch with your friend, as if there is a possibility of her getting the dog she desires at such a low price, you would obviously be the one to ask, as I am unable to help her.
You have said on a few occasions that have insinuated that what Julie is saying can't be right!! LOL you have seen quite a few of my posts have you.. I don't turn threads into arguements I just say it as I see it.. The thread still is civil..Information has differed yes as it always does..but you seem to think you are right and everyone else is wrong..not so.. you just know different people.. Personally if it were me I would be asking Julie for the info on this breeder too..as they seem a damn sight more honest than the ones charging higher prices for bitches.. and as long as the health tests are done and they are regd then whats the difference
Firstly, I don't have a problem with people saying it as they see is..........come from that particular school myself However, if you start saying that I am calling someone a liar, when I am not, then that is not exactly fair is it.... If I wanted to call Muddiwarx a liar, I would, I'm not one to pussyfoot about. I haven't though, so resent it that you are putting bad feeling between myself and another member. The fact is, I do find it amazing, like I said, that her friend sells such Chis at £700. Like I also said, wish I'd heard of her when I was looking for my lc choc chi a year ago. I can assure you I paid an awful lot more. And as for "honest" breeders not charging more for Chi bitches than males, then are you saying that some of the most respected Chi breeders in the Country are dishonest, because I don't know of a single Chi breeder that sells males at the same price as females?
Can I say I have asked everyone for there advice and im taking all of it on board as it's not something I would ever go into lightly. So thanks again guys xx
Thanks Louise - I have been feeling exactly the same to be honest but was avoiding wasting my time pointing this out as didn't want to spoil the OPs thread. My friend is a dog lover - she shows, she does obedience (the only chis I know in the UK that compete in obedience), she breeds when she wants a pup for herself and sells the others to GOOD vetted homes at what she considers to be appropriate prices - and doesn't whack the price sky high for breedable bitches (why would she - as a good breeder she sells with endorsements anyway and all colours go for the same ...) - it is the way good breeders in EVERY SINGLE breed operate - perhaps some in chis have jumped on the fashion accessory market and are cashing in .... maybe my friend is naieve and could be making a fortune .... but she is in it for the dogs not the cash A good breeder is a good breeder whatever the breed and GOOD ethical breeders do not whack up the prices on fancy coloured pups or females as GOOD breeders do not sell pups as potential breeding stock.
I could reply to your last paragraph but won't bother. I have tried to help Jem and every piece of advice I have given her, you have disagreed with it. So you can get on with it cos, frankly, I can't be bothered. No offence to you Jem As a last note - just wanted to say, I was chatting to my Krystal's breeder this morning (regarding Chis living with large breeds) and she said Krystal's sister went to live with a family (she knows them well) who own a Dogue de Bordeau (?spelling?) and they get along fine. Don't get much bigger than that, do you Your two are babies compared to a DDB Good luck in your search for your Chi. Let me know how it goes. Always love to chat Chi Did you see my thread with all my Chi babes on. If not, let me know and I'll point you in the right direction. ETA just thought, you might be wondering "who is Krystal" - she's my Chi babe in my avatar at the top of my posts.
When i enquired about chis (some time ago) i was told i would be able to acquire a breeding, but not show quality bitch, as of course, the show people keep anything that would be good enough to show. I would be able to get a good quality breeding bitch, fully registered, with free mating to the breeders stud dog for around £1000. But the dog wouldn't be show quality as it would be too big. The bigger bitches are mostly used for breeding to produce the show dogs. That was from a very successful and respected breeder and exhibitor, and on further enquiry, it seemed very common for breeders to do that. I did decide against a chi just because i have a large dog in the house. The breeder told me that she had to get rid of her pug due to it causing injuries barging into the chi's around the house. I dread to think what would happen if a labrador stood on one. My labs are very careful around pups and stuff, but labs can be clumsy and accidents happen no matter how careful your dog normally is, they could easily sit on, or step on, a delicate little chi and cause some serious injury. Whilst it is im sure, very unlikely, i would constantly worry about it. I like to let my dogs all out together (we sit on the sofa of an evening watching a movie lol) and i wouldnt feel comfortable doing that with something as delicate and breakable as a chi!
Let me get this right.. You can buy a pet quality Chi bitch with a free mating to the breeders stud dog? WHY would you want to mate it to anything if it was only pet quality????
Louise, You have to understand the breed to understand what i said In the show ring they require the small chis. You cannot breed from these, it is not safe So the breeder will show the smaller ones from the litter and breed the larger ones to carry on that line. It is very common in the breed, so im told anyway ;-) There is a difference between pet and breeding quality in chi's.
Hi Jem, I grew up withw chi, a good sized chi at that. I also have a 4 1/2 year old NI and with my NI there is no way I would get a chi as much as I'd love one purely because she is just too loopy and stupid careering around the house. Tonto my JRT can take it as he gives as good as he gets. I can imagine them living with other larger breed such a DDB as they are large but more sedate. NI's do seem to take a long time to grow up and yours may be different, but I applaud you for at least getting as much info as possible before getting a toy breed with a NI.
