    Variations in colour of NI

Looking through the photo's of people's NI's there certainly is a lot of variations of colour. I understand they want to move away from patchy dogs but was wondering if saddle backs are still acceptable?. I notice quite a lot of black & white 'more Husky looking' pups have been common lately (sorry Mick jmo) & wondered if thats the colour they are heading for?
If not is there a colour aimed for? Do they want eventually to have the dog instantly recognized as a certain colour or is that not a priority?
Before this turns into a bitch fest, its a genuine question that i'm interested in (before anybody says - ask at NIS - I'm banned so cant)
If you'd like to put your dogs photo's up to show the variations of colour that would be lovely too although i do understand if nobody does if the thread turns bitchy which it probably will

    Hi Liz

I do not know what the aim is ref colour, other than what is says on the BS, of course I have my personal opinions, as we all do, but that is not what you are asking so to keep on track, I shall keep that to myself.

Here is a thread that you may have missed, it shows the dogs as pups and as adults but it shows a variety of colours xxxx

This is Freya.. i consider her too dark.. i`d like to see less black in an NI.

This is Noah.. i think he is much more an acceptable colour.. maybe a little too much white.. i prefer to see them with a more reddy undercoat, which to me is more wolf like.

There was a litter born last year and the colour to me is exactly right, all pups have the full mask and similar markings, The litter was very even and easily the best litter i've seen so far. They are dark grey and have paler bits on them, abbie owns torin out of this litter so if you've seen a pic of him you'll know what i'm talking about x

More like these two wolves... that pale apricot/reddy colour.. rather than white. Is that what`s classed as sable?

Well take my two..not NI but NI seem to carry the same sorts of colours Cruiser is wolf sable and Lola is black & white (well seal actually as her undercoat is cream)..
you don't notice how sable Cruiser is until he is standing next to Lola's whiteness LOL..There is a recent pic of the two of them next to each other..

Jem not sure how you can say that about masks?? are all NI meant to have full masks?? not even Mal litters can guarantee uniform face markings!!

This is what I prefer i never said anything about how it should n shouldn't be or weither NI's should or shouldn't have masks it is my own personal opinion the same as i disagree with breeding from patchy and odd coloured dogs that again is my personal opinion!
My god I wish you'd read things properly instead of skimming through

Yes, i think i had seen that one WW, some fantastic looking dogs in there, which look do you think NIS are heading for as quite a lot of them look completely different.

That photo makes it crystal clear to me if thats the colours they are heading for.
p.s - as a sideline i was amazed at the colour changes in your Freya from 8 weeks to present.

For me Ela was just want i wanted in an NI with regards to colour. Her breeder always has very consistant litters as well. I do like the silvers and the whites as well but the really dark black and white are not my favs. They still look beautiful thought but they remind me of my husky and i wanted something different.

Ela is a tiny bit darker on her back then i wish but i love her anyway :) LOL

Is there a photo of that litter on here Jem, or a photo of Torin?
Also has anybody ever asked at NIS what colour or colours they are all aiming for?

She is 10 months old now and is a little lighter then the photos. Here is a recent on of her on the bed you can see the creamy brown colour is creeping up a bit further . . .

many of the ones with the darker saddle, kinda make me think gsd x
the marking just stands out so much, so many NI dogs still seem to hold a fair amount of GSD coat.

    lovely dogs none the less

I dont know what colours are being aimed for as a whole, I wonder if its a matter of what individual breeders want i.e ella's breeder and torrins breeder both dogs are totally different but just as lush if you get my drift as i seem to be rambling a bit (sorry)

I dont have pic's of torin but Jane might put some up later if she's asked nicely
