another question about rotties(didnt want to hijack the other thread!) I was out walking my two doglets and saw the most wonderful looking rottie, so well behaved but he was absolutely MASSIVE he was tall and well built, just looked magnificant. I must admit though, most of the rotties i have seen/met previously have been bitches so i was just wondering how tall are they meant to be? and has anyone got any pics that show how big the males are?
the breed standard is 25 to 27 inches for males, but you can give or take a tiny bit on that, so long as the dog is in proportion bitches should be 23 to 25" they are not massive dogs, though its not unheard of to bump into a really big one now and then.
It's funny because I think a lot of people assume they should be taller? Marius is 27 at the shoulder and even on here someone commented that he looked small, but he is right size for a male! Some of the ones I've seen in the ring are like Rotts on stilts, waay to tall and far exceed the standard. (of course you also get the other extreme and some you have to look underneath to see if they are dogs or bitches as they are v small )
kaos is quite small hes at the bottom end of the standard eg 25", but he moves so well, and hes in proportion, I try not to land next to the really big dogs in the ring, or he can look quite small next to them.
There's a really small rottie girl where I live, she is just over half Cox's height, and he is 27' to the shoulder. She is 18 months.
I think thats the thing with rotties, they dont tend to be massive, but they have a massive presence, they just seem to stand out, even when they are in the middle of bigger dogs, they stand out, its the big meaty heads...I think
;-) ;-) self perservation I like to call it though I have to say, a fair few of the up and coming top dogs are about the same size as kaos, so here's hoping.
