Be content with what you have, for God has said, "Never
will I leave you; never will I forsake you." So say with
confidence, "The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid."

It would have been nice if the original breeders of NIs had done just that and been content with the existing breeds instead of trying to play God and creating something "new" (and totally unnecessary)!

Just because they are here doesn't mean that they have to continue to be bred. As I have said before, the most appropriate solution for the problems within the breed would simply be to stop breeding, enjoy the dogs that are around at the moment, admit that the project has been a dismal failure and learn from the experience.

Well Mick, I am surprised that you consider my dogs unnesasary. Obviously there is a need for these dogs or so many people would not own them. How would you feel if we said the Husky should of been left in its country of origin? Did the first person to import a Husky decide to play God? Perhaps so.

Mick, this is your own personal, biased and prejudiced opinion.

Whether I like them or dislike them is totally irrelevant. For the record, I don't particularly like the look of most of those I have see as to me, they just look like very poor quality huskies or husky/GSD crosses (and I'm not keen on GSDs either).
The point is simply that the history of the "breed" such as can be gleaned from the lies, half-truths, rumours and innuendo available, has resulted in a "breed" which has largely been bred irresponsibly, for financial gain, with no consideration for the health, welfare and well-being of the dogs. Since the creation of the "breed" it has split several times, is represented by half a dozen or more "Breed Clubs" and the biggest organisation is led by someone with animal cruelty convictions.

There is not a "need" for these dogs, any more than there is a "need" for any other breed (apart from those bred to perform a particular, unique function - guide dogs etc).

I have no wish or desire to play "God" - I am simply expressing my opinions, which is what I thought fora were all about.

Well, at least you are honest about it.

The thing is Mick, there is a need for these dogs. I am not willing to own a Husky or a Malamute, much as they are lovely dogs, my current personal lifestyle does not suit those breeds needs. I am not saying the NID is an 'easy' dog, if there is such a thing, but I am sure they are easier than the said breeds, when one is in my position or a similar one.

How exactly would two breeds be dragging each other down??

The point is the NI is a cross and its dragging down the original breeds..

Mals were never sibes and sibes were never mals..

The NI are dragging both breeds down as they are meant to be from a cross of each..

Also huskamutes are dragging them down too as they are obviously a cross of both..

But No..Mals don't drag sibes down or vice versa

I think you are confusing "need" for "desire," which are two quite different things. There is a "need" for guide dogs, but there is a "desire" for wolf-lookalikes. From what I have heard about some NIs (not all, obviously) they are not that much "easier" than sibes or mals. Given that some breeds have certain behaviours hardwired into them, their "easiness" often depends upon the amount of time and effort people are prepared to put into their training and socialisation.

But they are being bred NI to NI now and have been for a good while so why is there such a sib, mal issue ?

Dont all shoot me at once but i think the main difference here is the NI/BI/Ute all have the husky(ish) look but can be let off lead hence anyone who loves the husky look but loves to let their dog run free off lead will opt for an NI/BI/Ute.
I would love a husky but i dont have a rig or anywhere to go with one & i dont have land, so what's my option, let it run around in a tennis court? Sorry but to me where's the quality of life for a husky in that? Thats (personally) why i have the dogs that i have & maybe similar to what Werewolf means?.

I have been approached on several occasions by owners of both NIs and Utonagans and asked if we would allow our males to be used at stud to their females, so whatever is said publicly, some breeders are still seeking to crossbreed.

I've seen quite a few threads on a variety of boards with NI/Ute owners complaining that their dogs do not have good recall........:?

I am assuming you mean breeders with a small b rather than Breeders with a big one... someone that just wants their dog to have pups? There are people like that all over the place - witness the many thousands of weird crossbreeds out there (please don't say NI. I know I am leaving that particualr door open for those of you that think they are mongrels...)

Shila has a reasonable recall, as good as can be expected I think - the tone of voice plays a great part in this since I have seen that if I *want* her back and stress this in the recall she will head up and come. If I am in any way "lax" in the command then she will pretend not to have heard it.

As for the comment earlier about temperament, the reason we went for an NI was because they are not aggressive - and Shila certainly is not, there are less than 15 occasions I can recall when she has even barked in the 18 months or so we have had her, let alone shown aggression (which I cannot recall *ever* having taken place).

Seems to be partly in the nurture, but as with most things I suspect, breeding *does* play a part. Shila very seldom has a lead attached when we are out, even when I am cycling with her alongside... maybe I just got lucky, eh?

Malamutes are not aggressive either..and Cruiser's recall is fab..but I won't take the chance in an unenclosed area...he means to much to me to run under a bus
