He is a bit young to be away from his mother to be honest, the proper time is 8 weeks. I took mine to be chipped within a couple of days of them coming to me, but they were 9 weeks, nearly 10 weeks then.

I chip & tattoo litters from the age of 6 weeks whilst they are still with the breeder(esp BC puppies as they can then be screened & the chip number noted on the BVA litter screening result form

We usually chip puppies at the same time as the second vaccinations.

Sorry, SHE. But she is still too young to leave for a new home until at least 8 weeks. Lots of people chip the pups before they leave for their new homes, so I would say she is fine to be chipped anytime really.

Both my boys were done at 10wks, when they had their second vaccs:grin: Though Deacon's chip has now migrated to his shoulder, Jamie's has stayed in his neck...

Erm struggling to think - last pup we had was the wolfy and think we got that done at the same time as the second round of vaccs so must be 10 weeks i think. I would double check with your vet - they may have certain guidelines. Besides, before the second round of vaccs are done the puppy really shouldn't be running around in the great outdoors so not too much of a risk to wait a few weeks.

BTW you say "thinking" of getting the puppy chipped - are you undecided or are you just questionning what age to get it done? Although the way the chipping system is run is not perfect i do think it is a brilliant and potentially invaluable way of keeping dogs linked to their owners so i am all for it.

Always had mine done when they are hip scored except one who was done at the time of the second jab and his is the only chip that moved. May be coincidence but the vet said they have more move when done in a young dog.

5 months old but only because she had to be sedated for an x-ray otherwise it would have been when she was spayed.

Large needle :-( and low body fat made me wait.
