The german longcoats can compete in Schutzhund, but of course they fail the Breed Survey, because of the incorrect coat type so the dog will have no progeny registered with the SV

What a fantastic thread with pictures of all these lovely shepherds. And I have to admit to having little knowledge of different lines so learning all the time.
Yogi has a special wow factor for me being Tala's half brother

I personally prefer the working types, but not sure of the differences between German and English working types. I like the darker coloured dogs esp grey sables and blacks.

    Hi Laura
as Archer as already stated HD is genetic it as no correlation to steepness and length of croup or hind angulation.
In fact my most extreme WG line dog as 0:0 hips. There are some environmental influences but mainly from time of conception (nutrition, care of the bitch in whelp etc.).
Dogs with severe HD ie no 'ball' or very shallow 'socket' are born that way. with these dogs exercise (free running or swimming) is crucial in developing the gluteal muscles that helps to stabilise the joint.
Your vet needs to read more on genetics and orthopeadics, to me its worrying vets stating false myhts such as this.
For scoring it depends whether your dog is done under sedation or GA, sedation is cheaper. Costs vary from £190 for both hips and elbows upto about £300, obviously cheaper if you just have hips done, but you can have a dog with excellent hips and severe elbow dysplasia so its worth having both done.
BVA fees for submission is £35.40 just for hips and £70.60 for Hips & Elbows.

i think she'll stay dark, all her brothers and sisters have gotten lighter. she was always the darkest. the breeder has another litter if your after one :D think there is 1 long coated one.
