Yes Nanook is a long coat (haven't felt his coat to see if he is Wooly or not) - he is a really stunning boy though
I am a fan of the longer coated ones, it may be against the standard but I think I actually prefer them. Lovely looking and so cuddly looking xxxxxx
Is it hard to get a long coat? I'd be tempted for my next puppy, but I'd really want a long coat... What do you do? Put your name down on lists and hope one comes along... It would be a few years yet, not until Selkie headed for the bridge anyway.. (So hopefully not for many many years yet). But if Long coat is not desired then I assume no one breeds specifically for it... How would you know where to ask?
Most good breeders do the long coat test now..(wasn't available when Cruiser & Nannook were conceived) Which means they can avoid mating carriers together..so most good breeders will avoid breeding long coat pups now.. I was like you..I loved longer coats..The first one I saw I asked about and was jumped on LOL as its not correct etc etc..basically its down to nature if there was one in the litter (well before the test anyway).. When Cruisers litter was born there were 2 boys and I had to pick!! Long coat or no long coat he was the one.. (there were 6 I think in the litter and he was the only longer coated dog).. Not sure if Nanook is a woolie or not..Cruisers' coat is still harsh just a bit longer..Woolies have softer coats
Oh WoW he is a stunner he is sooo cuddly I too have a soft spot for the long coats,oh hell, I have a soft spot for Mals full stop
