This is very much a dog lovers forum. We love all the dogs whether they be pedigree or crossbreeds, that is what this forum is about. What we try to do is educate people and show that what they are buying with these designer breeds is actually a crossbreed under a fancy name and paying extortionate prices to line some breeders pockets. It's the breeders people have a problem with certainly not the dogs. Maybe people will think twice before parting with their well earned money. If they still want to part with their money for a crossbreed that is entirely their choice. But at least by reading these posts they are informed.
A good post Heather the operative words being 'a dog lovers forum', this doesn't mean people favour one group of dogs over another (as I think may have been hinted), it means that when people see what are clearly attempts to exploit dogs, any dogs they speak out.
Entirely agree! So what if it is a cross or mongrel. Good on OP for going to a rescue centre and asking about likely outcome of such a mix. FWIW, I would say potentially noisy! Mary
Exactly. And no matter how some folk dress it up retrospectively there is a real risk of putting off genuine posters from enquiring in the future. Wish some of the seasoned posters on here would be less caustic and frankly rude, on occasion. It is the group-think on Dogsey that prevails sometimes and I find it sad. Mary
I would rather say out loud what I think of so called designer crosses and save people some money!!! Would you rather I had said.."oh they are fantastic..on you go..buy one for £600.. I am sure the pedigree papers will be sent on to you!".. If the OP had stated in the first post that is was a rescue things might have been answered different.. I would still have said..temprement unknown and ask the rescue who is assessing her/him.. and also asked where the daft name came from..
The OP did not ask if it was a good idea to get a cross breed from a rescue kennels. Nor did she say she was new to the forum or dogs. She did not say or suggest she wanted the answer to be wrapped up in gift paper and tied with a bow. She asked a question of one line under a ridiculous title, she was given straight and truthful answers. There are, on the web, plenty of sites where one can play at living in a different world but this is not one of them, here you ask a question and we owe it to give a straight answer. And as I said it may not please everyone but there will be those readers who are still able to think for them selves and are happy to listen to the opinions of others, particularly when they have asked the question.
To be fair Louise, on THIS occasion I would have preferred a less loaded response...a quick glance at name and number of posts is a clue I totally agree with you in principle about breeding for cash, but I would have been pretty affronted by your reply if I didn't know your writing style and I'm pretty straight-speaking myself! If posters give more info, it allows us to post out an appropriate response. Where they don't it may be more welcoming to ask a less loaded question? For the most part I find your posts appropriate, not this one, sorry. JMO, I must be in a good mood this am, all syrupy (yuk). Mary
Have to say I never answer the poster only the post so I am totally unaware of the status of the poster but even if I did know I would still give an honest answer to a straight question, wouldn't you?
Have to agree with every word... answers have been given to a one line post, no mention of rescue in the original post... we can only answer what is written down I dont understand why the amount of posts from the poster is relevant... the thread tittle and its contents would have received the same response, be it a new member or an old hand .
Yes, and I would aim to do so without loaded opinion. Its often not what you say, but how its said. I don't always succeed either, BTW. Interestingly, i always look at who asked the original question.
Its relevant in that they may not be aware of a writer's style and to take brusque replies with a pinch (kilo) of salt. I just prefer to take my time to judge that is all. BTW, can't believe I'm taking an opposing view to you again, not 1 hour after giving you reppies: that will teach me.
I think sometimes things are worded a bit strong with new members, I dont mind the direct answers because I know you all, but as a newbie... it could seem a bit off... I like the straight talk, but im not new here, poss education rather that extermanation of new members is the way forward... that sounds quite bad as well though... rather like im saying new members have no knowlage of dogs.... and thats not what I mean when I say it. x
101% with you there. TBH, I sometimes find it hard to be even-handed as some posts are pretty daft in construction, and i do not suffer fools but prefer to aim to give benefit of doubt too. Great post Shona.
Well stand me in a corner and shoot me LOL People either love me or hate me.. I can live with it.. I say what I mean and I would say what I type to their face too.. Does that make me a bad person??
No one wants to shoot you, you have met me, Im straight talking to, what im saying is what you type may not read on the forum the same way, Im as guilty as the next one for doing it, ............I think if im being honest that people are quick to bark now due to the high amount of NI type threads that break out, thus we see another new x and it does get us thinking........... oh no not another one.
Always have been, always will be! Started a new job last night..at the interview..the manager said.. what are you good at?? I said complaining!! LOL... then he said why? I said cos am a gobby cow... phoned 12 hrs later and offered me that job.. .. Saw him last night..and he said.. I like honesty in a person
