I would imagine it would depend on which of the parents it took after temprement wise or whether a mixture of the 2 breeds temprements. You can't say anything certain about crossbreeds, my advice would be to research the temprements of both breeds and be prepared for either or a mixture of both.

    Another stupid name!!!

A shihtzu x pom could have any kind of temprement.. it all depends on the parents and what upbringing they have had in their first weeks..

Crossbreeds are a lucky guess regarding most things..looks/temprement/size etc

    Hi and welcome to dogsey!
The best way to determine the temperament of a crossed breed dog is to look up all breeds in the cross and know you can get any combination of any of the characteristics found in either breed.
So just do as much research on both breeds as you can!
And if you do give the pup a new home make sure your pup is well socialized and take the pup to obediance classes too.
I bet the pup would make a loving, beautiful, loyal family companion!!!
Wishing you all the best...and keep us posted!

Who gave her the name... the dogs home?? I hope not,

best thing for you to do, is look up both breeds , and read up on both breed traits.. them the dog could have all /some/ a few of each breed traits... but as I assume the dogshome wont know the temperament of the parents.. it will be a case of any rescue dog... you will nee to rely on the rescue centre to have assessed the dog

Did the dogs home tell you thats what it was?? Did they use that name or did you make it up??

Haven't the dogs home assessed her temprement?

I agree Luke, as much as I hate these stupid names for crosses she's going to a rescue for crying out loud and wanted advice on a dog she is interested in.

It sounded like someone was off to pay lots of money to breeders for a designer dog

as it is there is a lovely mutt needing a home
Really thats all it is - a mutt, totaly agree look into both the breeds in the cross and see the best and worst temprament in them and ask the rescue what she is like

and post fotos, and have lots of fun with her

I agree originally it seemed like another designer breed. And I think you can only research a dog so much especially a x breed you just have to take it on its own merit.

Something needs to be done about this hounding of newbies as soon as they use a name for a cross breed that some of you dislike. The fact is you are stopping people joining and staying here, they may be excellent members given a chance.

I don't want to get into the rights and wrongs of designer dogs because that isn't really the point it's the nasty unfriendly atmosphere that is thrown at anyone who innocently joins thinking this is a forum for dog lovers because no where does it say only pure breed dog lovers or people who call their dogs mutts should apply !

    No absoulutly
It is a forum for dog lovers, and the people who are breeding these designer crossbreeds are NOT dog lovers they are money lovers

It is a shame that the OP didnt give enough information and people jumped in, but it is v right on this forum that people are educated that making a designer cross is NOT a good idea

But of course rescuing a mutt is the best idea in the world, give it whatever name you want, just dont make any more of them

well seems Ive caused a bit of a stir (which was not my intention)I joined to get liked mined peoples advice, im not a complete novice and all my dogs in the past except my lab have been rescued ... My two adorable cavaliers (mother and daughter)now in doggy heaven were rescued from a puppy farm after having produced many many litters(so called pure bred breeding lol)SO yes i could have posed the question differently but perhaps people shouldn't jump to conclusions about peoples choice of dog.
Thanks to those who stuck up for me
