OCD/Elbow Dysplasia (Osteochrondrosis Dessicans) HD (Hip Dysplasia) HC (Hereditary Cataracts) GPRA (Generalised Progressive Retinal Atrophy) I think the PRA can be DNA tested now.
In addition to the above, they can also now be tested for EIC (Exercised Induced Collapse), which is quite common in the breed.
Have they developed a test for this? How is it tested, do you have any info? I know they were doing stuff in the States, but wasnt aware of much here? Thanks.
thank you guys, espesh Dawn. Dawn, can i ask do you know all the test for all the breeds by heart?! you always so knowledgeable with this
LOL! Not all certainly not. My first dog was a Lab, I have had two, my first job was with a Labrador kennel, they owned and bred the breed record holder and are still the only kennel to have bred champion Labs in black, yellow and chocolate, I handled for them too, so I have an interest in Labs. I also was the co-ordinator for Midlands Lab rescue for 7yrs, and assessed Labs for the Police and Prison service for drugs and explosive sniffing.
Hope you dont mind me asking but what is this EIC? What exactly what does that entail and mean for the dog? I have a Flat Coated Retriever, and just wondered in general what it was I have never heard of it before. Shelly
its when a dog collapses through strenuous exercise. I have looked up the test and it looks to be inherited much the same way as Von Willebrands. http://www.woodhavenlabs.com/exercise-collapse.html
