I am not backing anyone up. I am simply saying that if you had cared enough about Nanuq in the first place, she wouldn't have gone to someone (on breeding terms) who was in a position to breed from her so young. Why would you let her go to soomeone you hardly knew? That is what you are saying isn't it? But as I have said before, you seem to have no probs rehoming your dogs or sending them back to their breeders.

Night all. Me and dogs that have lived here since pups and never been rehomed since are off to bed. Give your home forever dogs a hug from me werewolf. What a shame not all dogs have such a nice life. For even SC to advertise that dogs she gets back need training really says something. Poor dogs

Lee was on the committee at the time, I had no reason not to trust him... how wrong I was, and I do feel very bad about it all. Nanuq went cos her and Luna were fighting, I let her go out of consern fo her, Luna and my daughter. When I finally managed to get Nanuq bk before I even got home they had started firghting as at least 4 tida committee members saw! so i had to let luna go bk to her breeder. then breeze and nanuq started, what was I meant to do? my dogs live indoors with me and my daughter, I do not believe it is fair to have a dog confined while the others are free, and my house is not big enough to do that anyway. I just cant do right for doing wrong! it hurt to let them go but some times it is best for the dog conserned

Of course you cannot risk your daughter.

However, if you are saying Nanook has temprement issues ontop of the possibility of the epilepsy gene, surely that is another reason as to why she shouldn't be bred from?

I'm not saying she has, again you are jumping to conclusions with out knowing the FULL facts :? try asking instead of judging for a change or would that hurt too much

Ok Marie, what is the reason? and I apologise for jumping to what appeared to be an obvious conclusion.

Have you lot never heard of spaying a bitch/ dog that you have to rehome.
Sadly thses things happen I had to rehome Woody as he and his dad we fighting however he went without papers and they have castrated him.
I would never rehome and entire bitch or dog, especially if he or she had tempremant or health problems.
Sorry if I'm generalising and I do know there are some lovely owners on here but I depair at some of the practises the rest of you condone.

    Apologey excepted.

Nanuq gets on fine with other dogs, but when it comes down to "the pack" she has to be Alpha. Nanuq and Luna have never got on I dont know why, I am still in training to be a behaviourest, give me a year or two and i may be able to tell you. so I had to then let Luna go back, Nanuq had been through too much due to my bad judgement, I had to go back to her breeder. I then thought all would be ok, but no, I then had Breeze who was Alpha when Nanuq came home who wanted to keep the alpha status, and nanuq how wanted it. so then there were more fights. this is not uncomman more so with bitches that have not grown up with each other. Nanuq did not came back till after breeze had had her litter, they were approx 7 weeks olod by then (will look that up). I then had to make a choice between the 2 of them, I couldnt so had to look at it as a breeder, I know thats not a good thing but that was the only way i could choose. If this was all for the money I could have sold Breeze's litter if I wanted to but i didn't. I def wouldnt have put it in the sales contract that for what ever reason I would take the pup back, how does that help me get more money?

I do not condone it, I agree with you especially when it came to Breeze who has produced puppies with epilepsy in the past.

Ref Nanuq I believe she was sent away on breeding terms so wouldn't have been spayed anyhow.

I am off to bed too. Night all xxxx

My bitch went out on "breeding terms" at ten months and dose not have temp probs, it was agreed that she would be hipscored and at least 14 months old idealy 18 months old before being mated. the mateing happened agaisnt my wishes. the pups I re-homed were only approx 12 weeks old, ALL the owners know the risk! Breeze was in season on re-homing and IS under contract that she is spayed, I WILL be following this up!

You should have had them instead of the RSPCA, didnt he give you the option????? If the Bitch is out under breeding terms then surely you have all the rights & YOU organise the matings & the pups would carry your affix. & you organise the homes. Thats how i understand breeding terms, that the breeder retains all rights , the other person has a cheaper dog & the breeder can use the bitch as per the terms! not that the other person can breed willynilly:evil:

If your good friends at Tida don't think that the NI is too inbred and has health problems, then why would they be spending members money on buying a new genetics data base. If there are no inbreeding problems why would they be following the advice of Jeff Sampson and developing a breeding plan to outcross to other breeds.

As a Tida member I read the minutes of the recent committee meetings at the Tida Coventry show. The minutes are now on the website for non members to read.

    quote from Tida AGM

Any health problems with dogs will to be entered onto the genetics data base. So that when matching a dog for breeding the breeder can identify the probability of any problems that might arise from any particular mating At the genetics Meeting Jeff Sampson who gave the talk, advised that we should outcross to more wolf look a like dogs registered on a Star System. (i.e. Huskey with a pedigree) Any puppies crossed from the litter would have a 4*, when that dog is bred with an NI a 3* and when down the zero the puppies would be genuine NI’s. The committee decided to adopt his suggestions.

How would this improve the situation?
I know of no reputable siberian husky owners with the love of their breed at heart who would contemplate for one moment any of their dogs being used in such a project. The only people who might consider it would be moral-free idiots out for a quick buck. The result - the importation of more doubtful, poor quality, probably not health tested stock into an already compromised "breed."

well it is for the Tida committee to decide which health tested dogs could be added to their breeding plan

this is a quote from the Tida website

The Inuit Dog Association will allow their breeders to use other dogs/ bitches that fit the Breed Standard and are fully health checked in their breeding programme for a specific purpose, such as to eliminate a health problem or breeding fault or to improve the gene pool. The resulting litters will be eligible for registration on a star system provided all necessary checks have been carried out and all results forwarded with the litter registration together with a four generation pedigree and photograph of the dog/ bitch that has been used. .

At the risk of repeating myself, NO dogs should be bred from if epilepsy is in the lines.

We do not know mode of inheritance and without a genetic test (or a crystal ball) we cannot say with surety which dogs are carriers and which are not.

I cannot understand why anyone would risk it.:-(

IMO I think the problem with NI is that they are all closely related to each other, and as the mode of inheritance isn't known and there is no test available to determine which dogs are carriers, it would be safest to assume that in theory any or all could be carriers
