Hello, Thanks for all your messages re the scootering. Some great advice. I now need some help with regards to the best harnesses. There seems to be lots on the market and it's getting a little confusing. All recomendations appreciated. Lisa x
Where does your line attach to teh scooter? If it has a brushbow then I would use an X back - if not then go for a proper scooter harness - see Snowpaw link on left
Sorry it's all new to us this malarky. We have ordered this scooter. http://www.pawtrekker.com/viewproductbottom.asp?id=32&catsel=51 They do sell harnesses on this site too, but they don't really say which one is best for that scooter???
I use the Bjorkis harness (X-back) although ManMat sell decent shoulder harnesses. It would depend on what type you are after
Depends also if you are connecting the dogs to you via a walky belt or connecting them to the scooter.. That scooter does have a brushbow..(the bit over the front wheel..with the loop bit for connecting the gangline onto) I would use a proper x back racing harness.. You can get them from Pawtrekkers I would think..yup here http://www.pawtrekker.com/viewproduct.asp?id=46&catsel=53 Or from CUlpeppers.. I use Swedish harnesses from Bjorkis..they are fabulous..but quite hard to get a hold of..
Have you found somewhere local for scootering - just you relatively near us and we really struggled to find appropriate land
Don't know where abouts in Bolton you are, but if you are near Moses Gate Country Park that would be ideal for you. Am looking into getting a scooter with my 2 and I will be going on there with them, although worried about their brakes, muddiwarx assures me the brakes on the scooter will stop them though
If you are worried about stopping, get disc brakes on your scooter - they actually work - even in the wet! I bought a new rig last year with disc brakes and it was a revelation - all those years of careering over wet grass with the brakes full on and nothing happening were finally over. Mick
I have an ISA maturing next year, so will deff look for something like that. I am practising right and left, but now realise it should be gee and haw When I bring them back from a walk on bin day I drag the bin behind me on the way back to the house, so they are quite used to having something behind them, but will be getting myself a large tyre when I have got harnesses for them. I had a go at scootering at the Essex NI Show and Cariad took to it straight away and seemed to know what to do immediately. It is just stopping them that I worry about Anyway Moses Gate Country Park is lovely and there are loads of places where someone could go scootering, the Rangers are really lovely and very helpful. Here are some piccies of parts of it you can see there are just miles of tracks, I used to do a lot riding on there when I had my horse
That's the same scooter we've got, it's great. Speak to Phil Dixon at Culpeppers, he is really helpful. http://www.culpeppers.co.uk/ Happy scootering.
I live in Westhoughton and next to our house are some woods (Can't remember the name) which is great. We also have Borstane (sp) woods in Wigan.
Oh Moses gate I had forgotton about here. (Not from Bolton originally) This would be a great place as it is huge. Thank you.
I dont' think you can scooter on pennington flash, you definately can't on the beacon. You'd have to ask the land owner before you try at a guess Out of interest - do you have to have public liability insurance to scooter in a public park?
I think scootering is classed the same as bikes..so whereever you can go on a bike you can with a scooter
What about the not using a dog as a draught animal bylaw? (Not arguing just this is why I am very careful and always assumed limited about where I scooter ...)
I think it is a bit of a grey area, you shouldn't run them on a scooter on public land due to the law Julie mentioned above, however, if you are scooting and they are running alongside technically that isn't using them for draught I must admit we are very careful where we scooter with ours but do take them to places we can't take the rig. When we do this we only take one or two each and go when no one will be around.
