    Going by how many progeny "Call of the Wild" (in whatever incarnation) chucked out, and saying that the average stud dog is 2 years old at the start of his career and him dying 5 years ago in 2003 at 16.. then there should be a good few hundred dogs around at his age and below.

    yes he lived to a good old age if it was the same dog, but the dogs at the start of the breed were crosses with a much greater genetic diversity than the inbred NI we have now. So I doubt that the NI born now will have such a high life expectancy.
