I don't think anyone is suggesting it doesn't happen, it's just you seem to be defending those who do move their 'stock' on, by saying "it happens in all breeds" etc. Why even begin to justify it? For me it has nothing to do with the NIS - it's bad practice in any breed IMO.

I agree totally it is a practice to be frowned upon, and has nothing to do with this thread, the comment by Liz & Kiesha was non productive and actually an unfounded dig at Louise, for reasons only known by Liz & Kiesha,

Yes... amazing that not only me but 2 other people that have dogs from the same breeder mix in the same circles and are obviously backing me up..

What does being a member of the NIS have to do with anything?? You said "of course me and my friends are perfect"..WELL yes.. in this case they are..they don't rehome their older dogs..that is what I said... nothing about NI breeders..so not sure where you are going with that.. Oh and if you don't want me to PM you..stop PMing me!!!!

It may take Liz a little while to get used to the fact I call a spade a spade..

My comments are based on fact and knowledge..I am proud to know the ethical breeders I know..they have given me no end of help and of course one of my lovely dogs..

Next time..maybe you should find out WHO I am talking about before you go badmouthing them,,.cos some of them might just be here to defend themselves..

It would seem that the dog wasnt bought as a pup... but as whoever the pup was bought from had the sister... there is a slight chance that he may be the breeder

Correct, someone had bought two puppies & passed them on. I did not aquire Kiesha from a breeder.

7 1/2 is a `good age` ?
For a giant breed maybe it might be considered `getting on a bit` but I am very surprised to see this age being mentioned in this way as though it`s an achievement, surely it should be around the age of being at prime, not written in a way as to be suggestive of NIs at this age are ready for a zimmer :?

Patch, it is a really good age for my boy and a real achievement that I havent killed him before now He isnt named Trouble for no reason you know

Joking aside, he is a young dog in health and at heart. At 7.5yrs he still hasnt grown up. No health problems so far either so could still have a very long life ahead of him. Suits me

Have to agree there Patch,said very similar to Shona the other day there.I lost my wee sweetheart Amber (cocker) at 8 and I was devastated that she was taken soooo young.To me unless it's giant breed they should be at the prime of the lives ;-)

I lost Seiko at 8 1/2...I expected him to get to at least 10-12

Now there seems to be a broad spectrum of ages except for giant breeds ?

How many on here have had the pleasure of having a dog any breed for longer than 16 years ?
My old heinz 57 was 19 when he died ...If I set my sights on old Kings age I would have been a very dissapointed mummy when my Floyd went at 10, what is the average age for a GSD to live ?
Shar peis at the time I got Suki average age was between 7-11 , dunno what you guys think about that but when I lost Suki as devastated as I was she was 9 so not too bad an ining, I know of one that died at 5, and have since been told its not unusual for them to die between 3 - 5
being a smaller breed I would have hoped for a longer life span,
Northern Inuits, when I enquired about them was told they could live to 16, which I think is a grand old age...

BUt if NI live to an average of 16 years..then there should be LOTS of oldies around.. considering the breed has only been around for 20 years???

My GSD died at 14 her heart gave out on her..

Our cocker went slightly loopy after a phantom pregnancy and we had to rehome her as she kept going for me and my sister..we kept in touch with the people who had her and she lived till she was 10

But the sad fact is though even if someone posted say 2 Northern Inuit dogs at old age that wouldn't be enough here

If the breed was started 18 years ago, then I should say that it's highly unlikely that there'd be many 16 yo purebred NIs around, even if they ALL lived to 16.

Unless someone owns or personally knows of an NI that is 16 years of age, I dont see how people can give advised they can live to that age? surely something like that figure would have to come from some form of average, or norm?

Hummm wouldnt be enough anywhere, there are many many NI breeders who pop out many many litters so no 2 oldies are not enough maybe my standards are to high and yours to low then :?
