I went to the Skipton show in August and showed both my dogs. (Very successfully I'm proud to say! Spike came second in Best Open Dog and won Best White NI male/female, and Blaze won Best Spayed Bitch.  )

This was the first dog show I have ever attended so I don't know what happens at others. We didn't get catalogues. There were boards up with the different classes on but entries were only made a couple of hours before the showing began so I didn't have any written information on who entered what.

I did really enjoy it and will be going to more shows next year.

I only really know what has been put up on forums about these dogs
and I have to say in all honesty I could never get a NI
they look like stunning dogs but I am so confused by the whole thing that I think it is impossible to recearch the breed properly as the advice is so conflicting

I know what you are all saying about speak to the breeders but I would look into a breed for a long time before I would go to the breeders - and how is it possible to find out what is a good and bad breeder from all the sniping and arguing that is going on

any other breed I could ask questions about the health and temprament and get honest answers (in the main)
I could ask about breeders and get information there
I could meet people in the street with older dogs and see what problems there were there

I dont think that is possible at the moment
and I feel that any good breeder should not sell a pup to someone who has not researched the breed fully - as I dont see how I can it would be impossible for me to find what I would consider a good breeder of NI's who would sell me one of these dogs

although there are plenty crossbreeds in rescue - some of them will be pretty wolfy looking

it would seem there is no set criteria for judges...thus the judge is no better qualified than someone handing out the waggest tail rosettes:shock:

I guess it's hard for the societies to find a well-qualified judge (in KC terms) that is willing to spend time learning about a whole new breed. Obviously, it would be a bit unprofessional for society members to judge serious classes, so do the societies embrace outside judges that show an interest in the breed? Or do they approach a judge of another breed and hope that they've studied the NI breed standard and construction enough?

I think they should approach qualified judges.. There are many great all rounders out there who wouldnt find it to difficult to follow the 'NI standard'
what group would the NI dogs hope to be reg in if they ever get KC recognition?

    Utility?

I would look for an all rounder in that group.. JMO

Have I missed something about the judges? I don't often post here but I have seen these comments and am curious as to what the meaning is behind these comments. A genuine question and sorry for butting in, if no one wants to answer me on here (incase its anything you have to be careful saying in public sort of thing), then please feel free to PM me, I promise I'm friendly

Edited to say - Question answered via PM, thank you.

I have no idea why someone would PM you the answer.. but it would seem there is no criteria for NI judges.. no qualifications...
