I agree with you totally here and I'm not surprised that NI breeders don't post on here as they are always being slated and this from people who have no interest in the NI/Ute dog at all.

As a leo owner i would like to know where you got this information from.
I have heard of it is GSD but it is not common in leos to my knowledge.
The most common illnes in leos to my knowledge is different types of cancer and heart problems as they get older.

As a member of the leo club ( like other members whom are on this board) can verify the club requested info a while ago asking health or illness re our dogs.
I cannot remember this condition being listed, so if it was a common problem in the breed i would have though it would have been listed.

leo watch is part of the american club, not sure how many / if at all british leos are affected. As it wasn't in the survey.
I will have a look on the gb club site.
Failing that i will e mail tobs breeder.

    Hi Leo,
I wasn`t having a pop at your breed as they are rearly nice dogs, I got my information from a refferal vet who deals with this condition she gives loads of talks around the world about this terrible condition, i didn`t know shepards got it untill it happened i then learnt it`s quite common in the GSD after i got to know my refferal vet i asked her what other dogs suffered with it and she said it was getting more common in the leo`s as like shepards (More long coated) thir tails are very low and it`s bacteria that grows, she discribed it to me as allergies to the bottom, i hope this makes sense to you. If you want to know more just p.m me.
    Regards
    M

    Hey werewolf,
Thanks for the reasearch, as i wouldn`t like the leo owners to think i was having a pop at their breed, as i wouldn`t do that i love all breeds, i had to struggle with perrinanal fistula in my GSD for 4 years but in all the time my K.C. was a perfect lady right to the end.

Hi LEO, how did you get on? I've only just saw this and i have to say - it was never mentioned to me - cancers and heart problems combined with weight issues and maybe joint probs butnot perenial fistula (sp). Very prevelant in GSDs though.

Think i'll have a word with my vet also and see what they say.

You are welcome, I hope it is of some use to you. Off subject a bit but I came across an awful case of Leo neglect in Australia whilst I was looking for the info. There are some horrid people in the world:-(

I haven't had chance to ask to be honest.
It was something i have heard of as a condition but not a common issue for the leo's.
Hence the question, it has made me wonder if it is more common in the usa etc than here, as i haven't heard of it with the uk leos, but then again it is totally different lines etc.
So maybe it is a common one in the usa?
As soon as i find any thing out i will let you all know, the more we are arware of health issues and the syptoms the better for all the dogs / breeds involved.

How anybody can neglect any dog i don't know but a LEO - they are the softest, most sociable, loving pooches going - they can get stressed really quickly and it wouldn't take long for one to feel neglected  (oops i'm off subject now, lol)

    Back to NI's, lol

    Not unless the owner has..

    Taken from this thread.. http://www.dogsey.com/showthread.php?p=1187180#post1187180

Funny that someone who judges and gives out tickets to Malamutes and Samoyeds didn't know what an NI was:roll:
